Brendan Rodgers says Newcastle won't be able to sign Liverpool striker Andy Carroll on the cheap

Brendan Rodgers has accused Newcastle of taking liberties in their pursuit of Andy Carroll and insisted he would be 'a nutcase' to consider a cheap sale Nike Shoes Elite Sale.

The England striker's future has been the subject of huge debate this summer. Newcastle want to bring Carroll back to St James' Park, but so far they haven't even come close to meeting Liverpool's £20million valuation.

They first made an offer to take Carroll back to the North East on loan last month but Liverpool manager Rodgers, who intends to start the 23-year-old in tonight's Europa League clash against Hearts, has robustly warned that only realistic offers will be considered.

Not letting go easily: Brendan Rodgers says Newcastle won't be able to re-sign Andy Carroll on the cheap

'Newcastle got £35m for this player last year,' said Rodgers, who has rested Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Glen Johnson and Martin Skrtel for the trip to Edinburgh. 'Even to consider wanting to take him on loan is a liberty. There is nothing more on it for me.

'I need a minimum of three strikers. Once the window shuts, that it is it until January. I have got Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini and Andy Nike Lebron 12 New Released. I would need to be a nutcase to even consider at this moment letting Andy Carroll go out, unless there are other solutions for that.

Part of the team: Carroll trains at Tynecastle with the rest of the Liverpool squad

'At the moment there isn't. Andy has been working well. He knows the situation, like the rest of the group do, and we will take it from there. We have a small squad as it is. We have lost a lot of players this summer and I have not replaced them as yet.'

Rodgers has only brought in Borini, Joe Allen and Oussama Assaidi and he has concerns about the depth of his group, particularly after a move for Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin has stalled. Attempts to get Manchester City's Adam Johnson, meanwhile, are also unlikely to succeed.

'I hope we will be able to bring some players in,' said Rodgers. 'I had a list of players that I wanted to bring in. That was always conditional because of the money that had been paid out. The club are working very hard to allow us to get some players in.

Moving on? Carroll has been linked with a return to Newcastle

'But in terms of the depth, it is nowhere near where I want it to be. I can't wave a magic wand to bring players in and get players out. There is still a bit of time and hopefully come the end of August we will be ready to go on with the group we want.'

Thursday's game will be Liverpool's sixth in Europe against Scottish opposition and the only blemish to an otherwise perfect record came against Celtic in this competition in 2003. Unsurprisingly, given Hearts were beaten 5-0 by Tottenham last year, Liverpool are long odds-on favourites to progress.

That said, given the manner of their defeat at West Bromwich on Saturday, some will feel Rodgers has taken a slight gamble leaving Gerrard, Suarez and company at home but the manager is confident there is sufficient quality to make light of their absence.

'It's an opportunity for the squad players,' said Rodgers, who is set to give 17-year-old winger Raheem Sterling his full debut. 'I have to protect some of my players, as we have a massive game against Manchester City at the weekend.

'But I trust my players and trust the squad we have and have no problems with changing the side around. It's a great opportunity to see the young players and for them to show what they can do.'

One man who will be eager to impress is Jordan Henderson. The England midfielder suffered a difficult first year on Merseyside after a £16m move from Sunderland and is anxious to win over the sceptics.

He said: 'There were a lot of positives last season but there were a lot of ups and downs. I learned a lot throughout that season. I became a man in that time. I've had plenty of lows but there were highs Wholesale Nike KD VI GS. I just have to use all that experience and hopefully this can be a better year.'

NEIL ASHTON: Frank Lampard, David Beckham, Gary Neville, John Terry or another of the 'Golden Generation' should be the next England boss. those boys have The Knowledge

TEN THINGS WE LEARNED: Calum Chambers has gone from nice to naughty, Manchester United turn the heat up on referees and is history repeating itself for Jose Mourinho?

JAMIE CARRAGHER: Arsenal are so naive and it's costing them: Everyone knows how to play against them. can Arsene Wenger find the answers?

ASH WEDNESDAY: Manchester United will never reproduce the Class of 92, but Louis van Gaal must cling to club's history and not sell youth players (even if it's too late for Danny Welbeck)
