each other for all of one quarter this season afteer Harrison

SAN CANDIDO, Italy -- Canadians Kelsey Serwa and Georgia Simmerling reaped the benefits of some carnage in the final of Sundays womens ski cross. Marco Van Basten Jersey . Serwa, the reigning world champion from Kelowna, B.C., came from fourth to win gold in the final of the World Cup event after Switzerlands Katrin Mueller and French veteran Ophelie David tangled behind her. Simmerling, whose best finish since switching from alpine to ski cross was ninth at San Candido last year, just avoided the collision and wound up second. "I saw Katrins skis go up in the air and she took a tumble and almost decapitated me with her ski," said Simmerling, who hails from West Vancouver, B.C. "And I had to ski around her along the net. The conditions were pretty tough, but I think the race was safe." Simmerling finished third but was bumped up when David was disqualified after a review. Mueller took bronze. For Serwa, it was her first victory since winning both races here in 2011. She has been trying to build her confidence from race to race after returning from a knee injury that ended her season last January. "It was fun day and Im happy to be back on top," said Serwa. "It feels like its been a really long time. The pieces are starting to fall together." Serwa dominated her quarter-final and semifinal, but it was the first time she had to battle from fourth to first in a final. "It almost feels like I worked for it more this way than just getting in front and staying in front," said Serwa. "I had to be smart and had to be tactical, rather than just skiing." The silver was a welcome surprise for Simmerling, who had yet to even reach a World Cup quarter-final this season. She advanced from the semis after contact between Norways Marte Hoeie Gjefsen and Frances Marielle Berger Sabbatel. "Im obviously very excited and little surprised," said Simmerling. "I tried to ski smart and did my best and I think luck was on my side, but thats the sport." Serwa is third in the ski cross standings with 195 points behind Fanny Smith of Switzerland (336) and Gjefsen (207). Smith had opened the season with a run of three straight victories, but she was defeated by Mueller in Sundays semifinal. On the mens side, Calgarys Brady Leman failed to reach the podium for a third straight time and finished fifth. He has two silvers so far this season. "It was a tough race today," said Leman. "I made a lot of good passes and was racing really hard to be in the finals again. In the semis I was in second place when another racer made a very aggressive inside pass over a negative turn. He clipped my tips and it spun me out, causing me to crash and miss out on the finals." Switzerlands Alex Fiva got his first victory this season, finishing ahead of Germanys Daniel Bohnacker and Swedens Victor Oehling Norberg. Louis-Pierre Helie of Berthierville, Que., finished eighth. In ski cross, four skiers race each other down a course of jumps and bumps. Daryl Janmaat Netherland Jersey . A two-time MVP, Nash has spent the most dominant years of his career in the Phoneix Suns back-court. In 1,152 career NBA games with the Suns and Dallas Mavericks Nash has averaged 14. Georginio Wijnaldum Jersey . -- Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte expects to start Sunday against the Bears despite an ankle injury suffered last week. PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to turn around their season without any help from rookie nose tackle Alameda Taamu. The team suspended Taamu two games without pay on Tuesday following his arrest over the weekend following a late-night run-in with police. The fourth-round draft pick faces three felony counts -- fleeing police, aggravated assault and aggravated assault by vehicle -- among a dozen other charges. Calling Taamus behaviour a "detriment to our efforts," coach Mike Tomlin said Taamu is barred from the teams facility during the suspension, which could be lifted before the Steelers (2-3) play the New York Giants Nov. 4. Taamu will have a preliminary hearing on the matter next Monday. "We thought it was very important that we act and act quickly in addressing this," Tomlin said. "Obviously its a disturbing incident, one we take very seriously." Tomlin declined to expand how the team reached the suspension length or who was involved in the process, saying only "we intend to do whats right, thats always our No. 1 charge." Taamus teammates pledged their support on Monday but added they wont let his situation become a distraction. The Steelers have their hands full as it is heading into Sunday nights game against Cincinnati (3-3). Pittsburgh is winless on the road, including a 26-23 loss at Tennessee last Thursday that gutted the offensive line and assured the Steelers of their worst start in Tomlins six-year tenure. While Tomlin is optimistic centre Maurkice Pouncey -- who left the Titans game early with a right leg injury -- will be ready, right tackle Marcus Gilbert is out. Gilbert has a tendon issue in his left ankle but does not require surgery. Rookie Mike Adams will make his first NFL start in Gilberts place. Tomlin also ruled safety Troy Polamalu (strained right calf) and linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring) out, though outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley is expected to play after sitting out a game with a mild left hamstring strain. Pittsburghs road woes have followed a similar pattern. The Steelers play well in the first half then fall apart late. It happened against Denver in the season-opener, grew more exasperating in a 34-31 loss at Oakland on Sept. 23 then became a flat-out trend against the Titans. "It comes down to playmaking," Tomlin said, "and we havent made enough significant plays." Having Woodley and James Harrison on the field at the same time might help. The two have played alongside each other for all of one quarter this season afteer Harrison missed the first three games with a lingering left knee injury and Woodley left a 16-14 win over Philadelphia two weeks ago when his hamstring started acting up. Jasper Cillessen World Cup Jersey. Running backs Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman are questionable after Mendenhall strained his right Achilles tendon in Tennessee, an injury Mendenhall said is partially related to the torn ACL he suffered in his right knee on New Years Day. Redman is undergoing treatment for a balky ankle that cut short a breakout game. Redman became the first Pittsburgh running back in more than 40 years to have more than 100 yards receiving when he caught four passes for 105 yards. If neither player can go, it leaves second-year Baron Batch and rookie Chris Rainey to do most of the work. Batch scored his first NFL touchdown in the fourth quarter against Tennessee and Rainey has been erratic. Then again, so have the Steelers when it comes to running the ball. Other than a terrific performance by Mendenhall against the Eagles in his first game back from ACL surgery, Pittsburghs rushing attack has been hit-and-miss. The Steelers had just 56 yards on 22 carries against the Titans and rank 31st in the league in yards per game (74.8). While quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been terrific, the inability to run consistently has played a role in allowing opponents to hang around. "(Running) increases our chances of winning," Tomlin said. "It increases our chances of controlling the flow of the game and the line of scrimmage. Obviously, we believe in that. Obviously, we havent done that as well as we would like." Tomlin also took his teams young defensive players to task for a lack of production while filling in for older teammates, but added hed be critical regardless of the circumstances. "They arent (playing great) but I think Id say that if I was sitting here at 5-0," Tomlin said. "This is not a patient mans business by any stretch. We need growth and development yesterday, if you will, not only in our defensive players but our offensive players. "That is the nature of our business." NOTES: The Steelers bolstered their depth along the offensive line by signing Jacques McClendon to the practice squad. McClendon is a former fourth-round draft pick by the Detroit Lions. The team also signed defensive end Corbin Bryant, who played one game for the Steelers in 2011 and spent the remainder of the season on the practice squad. To make room for McClendon on the practice squad, the Steelers released TE Jamie McCoy. ' ' '
