Florida Call to Action Join The Day of Decision Organize Event In Your City Today
On November 15th, 2008, thousands upon thousands of supporters equality proudly stood together at rallies in protest of passage of FL's Amendment 2, AZ's Prop. 102 and CA's Prod 8 in sixteen Florida cities. It's time for us to add our voices for marriage equality again. By answering the call to action issued by DayOfDecision.Org and Join the Impact. Although, in the past weeks DC, Iowa and Vermont has given us much to celebrate. The cloud of the California's Supreme Court decision to uphold or invalidate Prop 8 still hangs heavy over us.
On March 5th. oral arguments challenging Proposition 8 were heard by the Court Justices. The court is required by law to announce its decision no later than 90 days or by June 3, however the ruling could come sooner. Should Prop. 8 be upheld, it will be the first time in American history that a recognized minority groups rights will be taken out of a constitution. Prop 8 is not solely a California issue, it's a national issue and the ripple effect of the ruling could effect us all.
The court will provide a notice 24-hours in advance of issuing its decision. The evening the ruling is made public, to date 12 States, 34 Cities and 1 Canadian City have already organized actions and more are signing up every day. Is your city participating?
In Florida, the Tampa Bay Metro Area is only city prepared to hold an action when the 24 hour notice is issued.
"As word spread of the Day of Decision's nationwide actions, we hoped more Florida cities would have signed-up to participate." "But, there is still time to organize an action in your city and we're here to help make it easy for you." R. Zeke Fread DayOfDecision.Org Florida Organizer said.
