Conditions from the blizzards last week have created a crisis
on the South Dakota reservations. The Governor has declared a
State of Emergency. The Link Center Foundation has received many
applications for assistance that cannot be filled due to lack
of funds. With propane, wood, and electricity prices continually
rising, many more requests for help are expected to arrive. Please
mark your check "Emergency Utility and Heating Fund" and send your

Until the inauguration on January 20, there are many points of
contact for writing to President-Elect Barach Obama to request
an award of Executive Clemency for Leonard Peltier. For example,
you can reach his transition team at . However,
letters are less easily dismissed and due to the onslaught of
electronic requests he now receives, the following locations may
be more effective avenues for capturing the senator's attention.

We encourage you to draft a brief letter (examples can be found at
. Focus only on the issue of clemency and,
if you include information on Peltier's case, be certain that your
information is accurate.

We also highly recommend that you fax your correspondence to ensure
speedy delivery. You may, of course, mail your correspondence. Send
your correspondence to at least one and preferably ALL of the
senator's offices. Do it today.

The Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee has issued a call
to performers asking that benefits be planned and implemented on
Mr. Peltier's behalf on or around December 10, Human Rights Day
(also the 60th anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human
Rights). The LP-DOC also is seeking volunteers to help with a myriad
of tasks and encouraging the formation of many more branch support
groups in the U.S. and around the world. If you can lend a hand,
