That's where I grew up walking to school. I can't recall getting a ride to school because it was cold out, even when school was further than a 5 minute walk.

I know around here, the rules for outdoor recess are SUPPOSEDLY (caught it not being held true) that if it is 10 or colder, either windchill or actual, you don't go out. That might be a good rule of thumb.

For my boys, they get picked up at the end of the driveway, but it is a rural driveway--you can fit two city lots (front to back) between our house and the road, so like a city block. If it is particularly cold or blustery, I will drive them down to wait if I can (time, sister, etc.). However, today's weather was just making sure they had their hats and gloves and coats zipped.
