What is the purpose of meditation? Why should one meditate?
There are lots of purposes for meditation, from relaxation to focusing on specific events/issues for clarity to self-connection. People should meditate because of the amazing benefits.
What are the benefits?
Meditation has many, many benefits. It is relaxing, which reduces stress and anxiety, which in turn will assist in reducing the risk of heart disease. A few months of meditation has in many cases reduced all kinds of physical ailments, that were created through one's emotional and mental turmoil but the most amazing benefit is the reconnection to the true Self.
How do I reconnect to my true Self?
I believe that sitting in the silence ultimately brings us into contact with our higher Self if not a higher consciousness, and whether we realise it or not, it imparts certain truths or offers a glimpse of who or what we actually are. This generally results in our search for those truths or to realise once again that glimpse of who we are.
Self-connection is the most important thing for us to experience in this lifetime, there are many ways that people will and can experience it. The subject, although very close to my heart, is a bit too big for the time we have at the moment. But if you don't do so already, take at least 15 minutes a day with the intention of experiencing the true Self, I can assure you it will be time well spent.
