I welcome Obama as US president : An Indian Peace lover's view
The US citizens have elected Mr. Obama as their New President and I wish the New President and the US citizens all the best as Mr. Obama takes over office !
Initially , I took the change in US President's office as a domestic affair of USA and did not show much interest .
I was surely immensely happy to see a racial outlook change of American citizens after years of democratization culture building ! I was not sure what changed the outlook of American people during the election , whether it was a search for Messiah or a true wisdom on human values . I don't think, the primier universities or mass media could do that over the years ! I am happy that the Political party , which is responsible for inclusion building in democractic world , did play its role rightly now , eventhough it was late. The next challenge for the US political parties to bring a WOMAN to the WHITE HOUSE!
Other democracies should learn from US citizens and develop inclusive models accordingly!
After feeling happy with the new social thought process in USA , i began to search for something in the USA President's office which i could be happy about as an Indian?
I tested my attitude first towards the New US President! There was not any racial euphoria as from the first day of campaign i began to treat him as a candidate at par with others due to his capacity to communicate clearly his vision. I never weighed white or black aspects of the candidates and i did not like that type of TV discussions because by saying these things we undervalue the capacity. Anyone can be good or bad and a black or a woman candidate need not be be a Samaritan or saint !I also donot know if persons of Indian origin are taken to Mr. Obama team because they are Indians /blacks. This type of identification should be stopped and rather the merits if any should be the criteria. I shall not be happy if a person of Indian origin is taken into President's team because of his/her race rather than ability. This will be injustice to common American citizens.
Having said all these , I am thinking of my expectations .
1) World peace shall figure as first expectation and the President can help maintain it due to the lead role of USA in global politics. NPT and CTBT should be followed up and parties to conflict on hot-points in middle east and south asia should be brought to talk. I will be happy , if the President can help India and pakistan to build friendly relations and reduce expenses on nuclear armaments. Peace should prevail in Iraq , afganistan, gaza etc.
2) UN Role : The president has a role to see that UN regains its position and parties to conflict really carry out UN resolutions . Newer countries like India should be taken to security council to make security council democratic
3) Terorrism : The President should find both military and political solutions to reduce the prominence of the terror organisations by working with terror groups at regional geo-political levels .
4) Fraud : US economic frauds affect the globe and so also India. I expect the President to ensure systems in Place to monitor fraud by Corporate houses and there should never be another ENRON.
4) Trade relations : The US president should help the poor countries to get trade advantage. Indegenuous people's knowledge should be patented better.
5) Civil society Organisations and democracy : The President should work towards establishment of 100 % democratic govts over the globe and there should be free space to Civil society organisations in all countries and at UNO.
6) Common man : The common man's food price , deisel price , share of aid should not be affected adversely by the NEW President.
7) Global warming; The President should also ensure better actions towards preventing Global warming and climate change.
Having expected all these , I also know , system and bureaucracy are part of governance instruments. Therefore , I won't expect things to happen suddenly and i still remember the proverb : Rome was not built in a day!
I will be satisfied if i see the President cherish a value towards a better world and carry out the functions of his office in a normal manner without much pressures and give due attention to his his family ,friends and party people who are behind the day to day office chores!
Let the President be in peace and deliver peace !
