Two Indian seafarers - Capt. Jaspreet Chawla & Syam Chetan are languishing in Korean prisons. They are from the vessel - Hebei Spirit which was damaged by a Samsung crane barge a year ago. The accident resulted in a lot of oil from the Hebei Spirit spilling into the ocean. The court of inquiry found the seafarers innocent and exonerated them of any wrong doing. They were ordered to be set free. The defense - Samsung Heavy Industries then appealed. On the third appeal the duo has been found guilty and imprisoned.
The families of the two and the entire seafaring community globally has been aghast at such a high handed behaviour by the Korean justice system. All international shipping bodies have condemned the decision.
How does one handle such a situation. How does one stay calm in this scenario?????
