Kate Bosworth Is Now Encouraging Us to Steal Her Clothes
Remember the days when actors were content to be just actors? Then Gwyneth Paltrow gave us GOOP and changed everything, making the tech-age "lifestyle" brand a thing—which has swiftly become the Hollywood side project du jour. Following in the footsteps of Gwynnie, Jessica Alba, and Reese Witherspoon, the two latest starlets garnering buzz for their new gigs are Blake Lively and Kate Bosworth.
We first learned about Mrs. Ryan Reynolds' new lifestyle website back in September—and it was an unsurprising development, since everything from her picture perfect nuptials to her love of baking cookies points to the fact that Lively is basically aiming to be the Martha Stewart of her generation. But the site has finally been christened with an interesting name: Preserve. (Preserve... strawberries? Preserve... dignity?)
Meanwhile, many will be psyched to know that the always fresh-faced and impeccably dressed Kate Bosworth has announced her latest venture, a fashion app called Style Thief. And it sounds basically like the app of her fashion fans' dreams: Style Thief will allow users to upload or take a photo of an outfit or item they like, search for the items, and buy them in a matter of clicks. Think Shazam for fashion.
Speaking to WWD, the actress said that she (alongside founder Samantha Russ) was inspired by her own subjects of style inspiration, namely Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, and Alexa Chung. “Everyone can relate to that feeling of looking at an editorial, for example—or a friend, or the runway, for that matter—wanting to steal something exactly as you’re seeing it, or something similar.” Launching Wednesday and promising to aggregate from such big-name retailers as Moda Operandi and Net-A-Porter, it sounds pretty brilliant. But, we have to point out the irony that a celeb-backed app might just shuffle in a new era of paparazzi for the masses: If you're looking particularly chic today, who knows who might just be sneaking a picture.
