would love to be doing more RE deals right now, but my time is very short (and valuable to me) right now, so I had to cut back. When things settle down, I may switch over to more real estate.
I would say that a real estate deal that nets you the same as what you would get with a basic stock deal (say an S index fund) is no deal at all, since you could just invest in that mutual fund and save yourself a lot of time, effort and aggravation.
I would guess that on the average it works out that if you have lots of time and little money, real estate will be better, but if you have lots of money and little time, the stock market will be better. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle and need to find the right balance.
While doing " both" is excellent advice (I do both), in general RE should NOT be more than about 4% 5% of your total portfolio. I higher than that in RE but I a bit of a different investor.
Let start by defining something though you said STOCKS, instead of stocks let say EQUITIES. The average person (that would be almost all of us) should NOT Nike Outlet own individual EQUITIES, but if they do no SINGLE STOCK should equal more than 4% of their TOTAL NET WORTH.
It easy to buy equities in small dollar amounts, Nike Outlet in MUTUAL FUNDS, Nike Outlet which is really how MOST OF US should own our stocks! I don recall the exact number of stocks it takes (18 sticks in my head) that you have to hold to eliminate SINGLE STOCK RISK. But a mutual fund does that for you. Many mutual fund companies allow you to buy as little as $100/month, so you could easily Nike Outlet draft that directly out of your checking account.
The way that I " generally" bought my stocks was that I would buy NO MORE THAN one month income in any one Nike Outlet Store stock. Some I did very well (NIKE, WENDYS, MICROSOFT) other I took some pretty bad losses on (JDS UNIPHASE). But even on the winners you can LOSE MONEY short term. If you look at a stock chart I believe Microsoft has doubled in the last 10 years, but from Nov to Nov 2000 I believ it DROPPED BY ONE THIRD.
Overall I believe the Dow Jones
