Moving ahead of the pack

I watch my brothers and sisters struggle
fighting against themselves
against each other
and I wonder why?
What is there to be gained from
fighting?
from battling
when the goals are all the same?
We each seek
a chance
to make a positive difference
for ourselves,
for another,
for the world
Why do we fight about it?
Aren't we all
moving
in the same
direction?
toward the same
goals?
with the same
intent?
Why can't we
help each other?
Acknowledge
the sameness?
the similarities?
the paths move together
that's why we spend
so much time
together
we are bonded
we are the
same
hold your sister's hand
move the obstacle
for your brother
he
or she
will do the same
for you
when you need the help
Can't you just say thank you?

Same goals, intent, paths (positive difference in this world) ... selflessness. Alas, I approach everyone as if this is true, only to usually be reminded that whether brought on by a reaction to environment or a long list of false expectations, many people are inward focused, unable to share, or easily recognize our sameness. Conflicted by a need for unity as well as needs to control, to dominate, to prove worth, or to be wealthy, many people cannot relax and meditate and recognize the positive in those around them.

I commend you for this writing, for the idealism it embodies, the lament for the pain of friends while you have the perspective to see through their conflict.

You are a dear online friend.
