Optical Illusions

This was from my daughter's junior high school yearbook and I thought it was beautifully written and worth sharing:

Optical Illusions

Who is it that is me?

Could it be,

That what you see

Isn't really me?

Who I am is indeed not what you see.

Is it that we begin

To finally understand

That Beauty lies within?

Should we choose to shine or be dim

Is up to you and not him

Or her

Or them.

I'll let myself shine for all to see,

Shine the brightest as I can be.

Shine for me and not you,

Because that is what I choose to do.

All may enjoy what they see;

But what they see,

Is it really me?
