When I look back at my life, I can see that there have been times when I have went from pillar to post where peace and justice issues were concerned. Its his fault, it's her fault, its them that did it, its not my fault, its theirs. It seems that quite often there is someone to blame for our troubles or the troubles in the world. Perhaps it is all of us, all of humanity that are the source of the problems and not any one group or groups of indivuduals?
For centuries there have been problems throughout the world, wars, lack of resources, hunger, disease, injustice, human rights violations and a whole host of other unspeakable acts commited by human beings.
For centuries there have also been groups of people who have stood up against tyranny and oppression, from grassroots to revolution in order to affect change on both regional and global scales. There has been much progress on many issues through such efforts, such as the recognition of the right for equal treatment of women, the right to vote, the right to marry whoever we choose, the right to freedom of speech, the eradication of many types of physical illnesses and diseases through advances in technology and medicine. Many of these rights and advances have become reality in many communities throughout the world, yet for many of these issues there is still an ongoing struggle.
But yet, wars, lack of resources, hunger, disease, injustice, human rights violations and a whole host of other unspeakable acts commited by human beings are still prevalent throughout the world.
Despite the advantages of technology, which is a product of science, the human mind and thought, we have created a world where total annihilation is possible at the press of a button.
It seems that time is a critical factor in order to make our world a safer place. How much time do we have left when the house is burning down?
Are the approaches that we take through activism and supporting causes going to be enough to change all of humanity before the human race has eradicated itself? These things are essential I feel, but are not the whole picture.
It seems to me that there needs to be a radical change in the way we think as human beings. From an early age, many of us are taught what to think, but not how to think for ourselves. If it is possible for us all, collectively, to free our minds of conflict by spreading peace and love then perhaps there is a chance. Maybe this will take time and maybe it will happen much quicker. There are many who speak of radical change going on in the world at the moment in the human psyche. I certainly hope this is the case and that this is really happening. I certainly feel it within myself and hope that soon there will be a radical change in the way we behave as human beings, a radical change toward universal peace on earth.
