Sing Peace! A Pilgrimage for Peace and Global Harmony sounds its "opening gong," on Saturday, March 21st from 2-4 p.m. Donation: $10 (no one will be turned away for lack of funds). Proceeds will go to the South Whidbey Commons Youth Scholarship Fund. See the poster (my iPeace profile photo).
The event on March 21st will introduce the concept of this pilgrimage to the Whidbey Island community. The program includes Laurence Cole a Port Townsend EcoVillage resident and director of a community choir, the PT Songlines, is one of those who brings whole communities together in a voice that resonates peace and global harmony. His mission is to "Re-EnChant the World."
Jim Tolpin, founder of the Port Townsend School of Woodworking. He teaches a course on "How to build a gypsy wagon." At the same program, Jim's talk and slides will show how modern design and construction techniques can be used to create a wagon that will be enchanting and cozy, yet roadworthy for travel at today’s highway speeds.

Jim Tolpin will teach a weeklong course in how to build a gypsy wagon. I plan to take that course in Port Townsend; construction will begin on Whidbey sometime after. Richard Epstein, a local contractor, has offered his shop on Crawford Road as the building site. I could have hired someone to build the wagon, I want a more "hands on" experience that would engage the community. The pilgrimage is all about community, after all, so why not start at home?
As you might imagine, a lot goes into the actual construction of the gypsy wagon. A number of friends have offered help in building and adorning it, by the way. I'm moving forward with my plans while allowing the time needed for various components to come together.
About the course I will follow once I'm on the road: I am fairly bursting with ideas, long lists and many links in re: where I will go and who I will enlist to accomplish my goal of encouraging communities to gather to sing with each other as a gesture of their sincere desires for peace and harmony. I will necessarily be inviting singers in the various communities to lead singing as I will be acting less as "lead singer" that as a catalyst. This is not a performance venue for singers. It's about sharing music in community. Anyone can participate.
I would like to start locally and regionally, then, as Sing Peace! gathers support and momentum, I will make longer hauls to connect with communities around the US across our borders. I'm getting feedback from friends in other parts of the country who want to participate. That makes me wonder if we could form a kind of "peace train."
