Splinter Groups.

When initially approached about iPeace my instant thought was ... "What a nice idea, I hope it takes off."
I, now, find myself being asked periodically if I'd care to join this, or that, group which appears to be a sub-division of the whole.
Can any-one explain, simply and succinctly, why a group dedicated, apparently, to a form of Global Peace should want to sub-divide itself again?
Isn't this rather defeating the entire object of the exercise?
