As our global economy is showing obvious signs of trouble, is it any wonder? We're getting down to the last of our resources as we continue to strip mother earth of her beauty, so what did we think would happen? The impact that the industrial age has had on this planet is almost too huge to comprehend, but is becoming more & more obvious as the Earth tries to repair herself. Wicked storms, melting ice, rising sea levels and species extinction are all signs that our planet is trying to tell us something: we are not doing what we were meant to do, that money and greed is now more like a religion and the focal point of life. But as mother earth continues to try to cleanse herself and rid herself of this disease, the signs of this are not only melting ice caps and mega storms, but also major global recession / depression. Earth's resources are not infinite, as we now all know, and they will become less and less as the earth tries to rid of the toxins and in turn gets rid of more of our so-called industrial resources. I think the real message here is that we have to change NOW or never. Scientists have been talking about this since well before the 70s, records show it actually began in 1845 (see link: http://www.ecotopia.org/ehof/timeline.html) and no one has really paid attention until now. So it's all coming to a head, we are witnessing history as the machine is forced to slow down. If we had listened to people like David Suzuki even as late as the 70s, we wouldn't be in this environmental & economic mess that we're in now. Will the lesson be learned? It's very hard to say.
