The Return of Hope

It is a beautiful day in the history of the world. Hope has returned to the hearts of not just Americans, but all of humanity. It is palpable. If we are not caught in the mire of our own sense of powerlessness and deep dissatisfaction of our personal lives, then we can feel the beauty of this moment, and the mark it is making on the lives of every living being on this planet going forward. A new choice has been made. A new direction, a new path laid before us. So much effort made to get here, so much struggle and pain and hardship. But here we are. And let’s not lose this opportunity to rejoice in the fruits of the toil, to beam our hopes brightly into the future, to relax into gratitude and release the grip of fear in our bellies. There will be much work to do, that is true. But for now, let us breathe in the beauty and weight of this moment in time.

Here is a prayer that all the hopes and dreams resting on the shoulders of our new leader, Barack Obama, do not weigh him down, but rather act as a buoy of courage to lift him up and carry him forward in his quest to usher us into a new way of being in the world as a country- a new world based in love, equality, and compassionate politics.
