The EPA said that by replacing these 20 million bulbs with Energy Star qualified LED bulbs Americans would save $118 million per year and remove the equivalent of the greenhouse gas emissions from 150,000 vehicles from the atmosphere. Mark Williamson, Director of Innovations at the Carbon Trust, said: "Lighting is a major producer of carbon emissions. This technology has the potential to produce ultra efficient lighting for a wide range of applications, tapping into a huge global market. It's a great example of the kind of innovation that makes the UK a hotbed of clean technology development. We're now on the look-out for other technologies that can save carbon and be a commercial success." There is even an app for helping consumers find energy efficient light bulbs. http://www.buytablelamps.co.uk/kids-lamps.html Desk Lamp Glows To Let Your Boss Know You’re Running Late [Video] The Place Lamp glows brighter as the owner gets closer to the office. Seattle-based designer Samuel Stubblefield created a cylindrical lamp prototype that lets the user connect it to their smartphones and set up several digital geofences around it to enable the lamp to communicate the user’s whereabouts. The Place Lamp is a hacked full-color cylindrical LED bulb that connects to the user’s office WiFi and to their smartphone through an app, and changes color depending on the distance of the user relative to the lamp. The lamp glows brighter as the user gets closer to the office, and eventually glows the brightest and functions as a table lamp when the user finally arrives at their desk. The lamp turns off when the user leaves the office. Using the app, the Place Lamp can be set to glow and change color based on different settings. It can be set to glow orange when the user is not at his or her desk, but is still inside the office. The lamp can be set to change to blue when the user is out of the country. The lamp can serve as a tabletop “availability” display for the user – a nice visual alternative to the typical “out-of-office” or “away” settings. Place-Lamp-1.jpg The Place Lamp can also be configured to respond to different communications that the user receives. As an example, the lamp can be set to glow a certain color when the user receives a text message from a specific person. Another example is that the lamp can be set to glow red when the user receives an urgent email. In short, the Place Lamp can be configured to change colors when the user receives a text, a call, or email from a pre-determined contact. This feature allows the user to turn off other types of notifications like calendar alerts, email popups, vibration alerts, and others, so that the user can concentrate on his or her work. The Place Lamp helps create an environment that lets the user focus on the task at hand without worrying about missing an important message, call or email. The 5,380 square foot single family home was based on an interesting concept: The story behind the name “Aun siento” which represents this residence, is one that’s born from family experience between the architect and his brother, Nelson Pons, and the passion that they both share for Fito Paez’s music. Thhe exterior appearance of the home is imposing, due to the mix of materials employed and the strong color contrasts.table lamps ikea The project opens up towards the inner courtyard and swimming pool with the help of large windows, but it remains closed on the side facing the street. Nature is allowed indoors, where potential guests is likely to be impressed by the spectacular greendecors. The interiors are spacious and minimalist, characterized by an intriguing material diversity.
