Yes, Paolo Friere's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" is what made me want to teach. I felt that if people were taught that way, they would buy into their own need for an education. I think his writing has definitely helped me be a better teacher.
What part od Brazil are you in? I spent three weeks in Rio and Baha de Tijuca. It was wonderful. I would love to read your thesis! Do you think you will get it published? I wrote a paper on Toni Morrison's "The Lesson" for my Multicultural Literature class. I suppose you study different authors than we do here?
