When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I am a born activist
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
War, Hunger, Poverty, Education, Our Planet, Violence, Inflation, Human Rights, Our Shrinking Freedom, Other
So what is it?
Alienation
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
Fear
More
Fear is the root of war, hatred, religious intolerance, prejudice, greed and economic disparity. Fear is the father of starvation and the ravaging of our planet and our people.
Can we change the world?
Maybe
More about me
I was raised in a conflict-resolution household during the Cold War. Both my parents were Russian interpreters. I think this perspective has influenced all areas of my thinking. I see every conflict as a matter of shortcuts. People take shortcuts in thought and action. These come in the form of assumptions and misunderstandings. We are all connected to everyone else in every thought and belief. Even the greatest enemies have a path of friends in common. To me, this is providence. We, together, have every solution that we need.

Mahmoud Abbas and the great peace experiment

Posted on October 14, 2009 at 9:30pm 0 Comments

Since becoming President of the Palestinian Authority in January 2005, Mahmoud Abbas has attempted something which placed him in stark contrast to the status quo -- he has chosen non-violence as a weapon to win freedom for his people. While his efforts have not been perfect, the results have been quite remarkable, especially for a nation at the crux of global conflict.…

How George W. Bush Happened

Posted on March 22, 2009 at 5:30pm 0 Comments

Love him or hate him ... collectively, we voted overwhelmingly to elect him at least once.

He was opinionated, acted from the gut rather than planning, led and compelled with raw emotion and pronounced judgment on anyone he deemed to be a threat.

But why did we elect someone like that? I believe it's because he was representing the world.

I think it was evident after the towers were attacked and after the Iraq war started. People were calm, collected and… Continue

Golden Calf

Posted on March 19, 2009 at 5:30pm 0 Comments

I just had a funny thought while I was making my protein shake / coffee thing.

For some reason I was thinking about that old story about the golden calf, and how people were worshiping it. Am I the only one who thought it was really weird that they picked a calf? Of, course in Sunday school that question was not fielded particularly well, so I pretty much just dropped it.

But I just started thinking about it again.

Wouldn't it be ironic if it all came out of an… Continue

Distance, Space and Time

Posted on March 4, 2009 at 5:30pm 0 Comments

I was thinking about the principles and conditions of space and time and how they relate to energy and matter... this applies to not just science and physics, but to human relationships as well.

I see this happen very often ... some person or group, be it an individual, a country, a gender group, etc ... want to affect change at a distance while treating the intermediate space as meaningless or ineffectual. It's exactly this mindset that creates the resistance to accomplishing the… Continue

Answer to the War on Terror

Posted on February 25, 2009 at 5:30pm 0 Comments

So I got lost on my way to an interview (which I missed), and since I was in the area, I walked through the Southwest Group art showcase on Welch Road and Sigma Road, I think. Obviously it's a very inspiring place. It was like being in a smaller version of the Louvre...only you can buy stuff...amazing. http://www.swgallery.com/browse_artist.aspx

Ok, so here's the idea:

The idea centers around converting terrorists to use non-lethal force, and in so-doing, forge a new… Continue
