The Way of Peace

The Way of Peace

A poem by Matthew Powell

At the beginning of Time He Stood
His intentions nothing but good
With six days, one to rest,
His Creation complete, it was His best
Soon came chaos, with mankind’s first sin
His Will was not altered, a Redeemer He would send in
His chosen ones, with them a Covenant made
His Commandments were not kept; His Grand Plan seemed to fade
With the Advent of Christ, the plan of chaos did cease
Christ came not to conquer, but to lead the way to Love, to show the Way of Peace

Hey Melody!
Thanks for joining. It's my honor that you are the first to join. I consider myself strongly influenced by the writings of Leo Tolstoy. He wrote a book entitled "The Kingdom of God is Within You." In this work, Tolstoy systematically analyzes the Sermon on the Mount, and its true ramifications for our modern society. (I disagree a bit with some of Leo's theology, but that's beside the point..:) )
I am also touched and very much influenced by a quote from , interestingly, a movie.
To be brief, the movie had as part of the main plot a Gospel that was written by Jesus Himself. The quote I'm referring to is as follows:
"The Kingdom of God does not lie within buildings of wood or stone. But the Kingdom of God is inside you, and all around you."
Cheers!

GOD is a tranquil Being, and abides in a tranquil eternity. So must thy spirit become a tranquil and clear little pool, wherein the serene light of God can be mirrored. Therefore shun all that is disquieting and distracting, both within and without. Nothing in the whole world is worth the loss of thy peace; even the faults which thou hast committed should only be humble, but not disquiet thee. God is full of joy, peace, and happiness. Endeavor then to obtain a continually joyful and peaceful spirit. Avoid all anxious care, vexation, murmuring, and melancholy, which darken thy soul and render thee unfit for the friendship of God. If thou dost perceive such feelings arising, turn gently away from them.
