Cry of the Snow Lion

Ten years in the making, this award-winning feature-length documentary was filmed during nine journeys throughout Tibet, India and Nepal. CRY OF THE SNOW LION brings audiences to the long-forbidden "rooftop of the world" with an unprecedented richness of imagery... from rarely-seen rituals in remote monasteries, to horse races with Khamba warriors; from brothels and slums in the holy city of Lhasa, to magnificent Himalayan peaks still traveled by nomadic yak caravans. The dark secrets of Tibet's recent past are powerfully chronicled through personal stories and interviews, and a collection of undercover and archival images never before assembled in one film. A definitive exploration of a legendary subject, CRY OF THE SNOW LION is an epic story of courage and compassion.

Chinese rule a death sentence for Tibet: Dalai Lama

Chinese rule is handing down a "death sentence" to Tibetans, the Dalai Lama has said, ahead of a meeting to decide Tibet's future approach to Beijing.

The region's exiled leader is on a week-long visit to Japan for talks on spirituality, just as a new round of talks between his envoys and Chinese officials was set to begin, and days after he said he had lost hope of any productive dialogue with Beijing.

"Tibetans are being handed down a death sentence. This ancient nation, with an ancient cultural heritage is dying," he told a group of reporters.

"Today, the situation is almost like a military occupation in the entire Tibetan area.

"It is like we're under martial law. Fear, terror and lots of political education are causing a lot of grievance."

The 73-year-old Nobel Peace laureate said he was "semi-retiring" because of stalled talks with Beijing, and said he would convene a meeting on November 17 to discuss Tibet's future approach to dealing with China.

"We will listen to the people's suggestions, and then I think things will become clear," he said.

"I don't think I will completely retire, but for the time being while dealing with the Chinese central government, I can no longer take full direct responsibility. My position is completely neutral," he said.

"Because we believe in democratic principles, the people should express their real feelings. I should not be hindering their opinions." (ABC news)

Dear members, please help spread this call for help!

Help Tibetans Survive This Winter!
If help does not come in time, many Tibetans will be without
adequate food or fuel for basic survival.

Ever since March this year, when unrest travelled through Tibet, the Chinese
government has severely restricted the lives of both civilians and tourists in
the Tibetan areas of Sichuan:
- Shops and businesses were forced to close their doors for between
three and six months, cutting into people’s incomes and livelihood
- Borders were closed and tourists were not allowed to enter Tibetan
areas, cutting off access to the tourist trade on which many Tibetans
depend for their cash income
- Local travel was restricted with many army-roadblocks and petrol only
available on vouchers, preventing Tibetans from obtaining goods and
services
- No major works were done where Tibetans could have earned a little
money as casual labourers.

Due to all these restrictions, the incomes of Tibetan people in Sershul region
has been drastically reduced, resulting in shortage of money to buy basic
commodities such tsampa or fuel
On the Tibetan Plateau winters are long and harsh with temperatures falling
below 20 degrees centigrade, no wood is available for fuel as this area is
above tree level, over 3500 metres. Tibetans therefore cook and heat with
yakdung. Due to restrictions on transport no stock has been able to be
accumulated.

Meanwhile, food prices have gone up by more than 50% this year.
Help Tibetans Survive Winter aims to provide emergency aid to meet this
crisis in the basic survival of Tibetan people in Sichuan Province, Chna

Please help and donate safely on our website: www.vistaproject.org
To help one person survive this winter will cost you only € 25
Our volunteers will be in Tibet and distribute rice, barley, butter and flour.
100% of your donations will be used for this purpose only.

No country or group has the right to destroy the culture of another country or group. When this is done the world is made poorer for the loss of that culture. Ant country that tries to commit cultural genocide should be santioned for there actions.
