The Indian activist Anna Hazar left the prison of high security Tihar on Friday (19) and led a march of thousands of people to the terrace Ramlila in Delhi (India). He will continue his hunger strike against corruption.
I read about it ... And I thought of Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi, was the charismatic leader who brought the cause of India's independence from British colonial rule to world attention. He
powerfully demonstrated his philosophy of non-violence, for which he coined the term satyagraha, as one of the most powerful tools uniquely available to the masses for lasting peace.

At midnight on the dot, between 14 and 15 August 1947, Lord Mountbatten handed over power to Indians in an impressive ceremony at the Parliament in New Delhi before the future leaders and Indian Maharajas. Outside the building, a huge crowd sang and admired the fireworks that shone on a powder keg that would soon explode.

It was the day of the "date with destiny", in the words of the first prime minister of independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru, who proclaimed that the country "stirred to life and freedom."

India celebrated its independence, but without the presence of Mahatma Gandhi, whose movement against colonization by non-violence played a crucial role in the struggle for autonomy. In Calcutta, Gandhi meditated and has lamented the "monstrous vivisection" of the former British colony.

His fears were unfounded. The partition into two independent states, India and Pakistan, led the bloodiest and largest forced migration in the modern world has known.

Between April and November 1947, a mass of between 10 and 15 million people crossed the border in both directions: the Muslims to the northwest, toward the new Pakistan, and east, where it is located today, now Bangladesh, and Hindus to the south, toward India.

These mass migrations triggered massacres that left between 500,000 and one million refugees who were killed on the roads or trains of "trains of death." The authors were, on one hand, Muslims and other Hindus and Sikhs, armed with axes, machetes and clubs.

The feeling of anger with the partition, the loss of territories, lands and houses was stoked by rumors, which incited the carnage. It was also crucial to political pressure from Indian leaders, with Mohamed Jinnah and his Muslim League on one side, and Jawaharlal Nehru and his Congress Party from the other.

When you do not wish the UN would become responsible for establishing new boundaries, the task entrusted to an Englishman who never set foot in the region, Sir Cyril Ratcliffe, who took 36 days in an office in New Delhi to draw the borderline between both countries.

Sixty years later, after three wars between India and Pakistan in 1971 and the birth of Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan, the symbol of the bloody past continues to Kashmir, where Islamic guerrillas left at least 44,000 dead since 1989, twice the second rebellion.

Gandhi himself states his position clearly and passionately, "All my actions have their rise in my alienable love of mankind. I have known no distinction between relatives and strangers, countrymen and foreigners, white and coloured, Hindus and Indians of other faiths whether Muslims, Parsees, Christians or Jews...All men are brothers and no human being should be stranger to another.
The welfare of all...should be our aim." Namaste

"Namaste
