first I'd like to than rose for the beautiful logo.

the idea for this group sprung to my mind after I receive a message from Mohamad sh.

he wrote:

Dear everyone,

As you all see my list, i have a 120 friends, part of them palestinian, others from israel and also some from other arab countries and others like USA , EU, and more, i would like to ask a sensitive question to my friends from israel, and also other are welcome to answer it: everyone of us here talking peace, and about peace, and sounds for me life on this is is so great and lovely, seems no hatred and racism, no occupation and war, from big part of the comments i read mostly we say: we want peace, and here is my question: WHEN WE SAY PEACE, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THIS NICE WORD, WHAT KIND OF PEACE WE WANT, WHERE COULD BE OUR LIMITES, BORDERS AND WHAT CAN WE GIVE TO MAKE PEACE REAL, LOTS OF QUESTIONS THAT FOR SURE NEED A DEEP THINKING TO SATISFY OUR NEEDS.
THANKS

So I answered:

That a really good question. I thank you for it, Mohamad. Peace means a great deal of different things to many people. It is a very personal question. I can tell you about the first things that come to my mind when I close my eyes and think of peace. I see no more wars. I see a time when my grandchildren don't have to spend 3 years of their lives in the army. I see equality and respect between peoples and nations. I see my Arab friends come to visit me at home, I see us going to the beach together. I see myself hanging out with my Lebanese friends in Beirut. But most of all, I see myself being able to get in the car with my dad (who is 87 years old) and 2 sons, and drive to Baghdad, Iraq, through Jordan or Syria. In Baghdad he takes us to the house he was born in, and to all the places he told us so many stories about. There, we close a circle.
These dreams might sound trivial to many, but these simple acts have been denied of so many people in the Middle East.

What would I give for REAL peace? Almost everything.

Then I thought, why limit it to Mohamad's friends. It's an important question. Why not open it up for everybody in iPeace?

David

Last summer I attended a lecture by Arun Gandhi (grandson of Mahatma Gandhi) & Mairead Corrigan Maguire (Nobel Peace Prize winner) in the Scottish Parliament, here in the historic & beautiful city of Edinburgh.

Mairead spoke of nurturing & cultivating love & peace within yourself, and then sharing it. Arun quoted his Grandfather who spoke of the seed of peace. If this seed is kept in a box it will wither & die. However, if the seed is exposed to the elements it will grow & flourish!

The message is clear, share your peace & let it grow & flourish.

And, with this in mind, please embrace the philosophy behind this movement and share your passion for peace by reaching out and inviting your friends.

I love to use children in images of peace and contentment. It's hard for adults to get that look in their eyes a child can, even though I know it's possible. I've seen it in the very old, the young and in between.

Here are some "littles" I photographed recently:

Brahma-Viharas is a Pali word (original language of the Buddha) meaning “heavenly abode” or “best home.” The Buddha taught that practicing these four qualities leads to the “liberation of the heart which is love.” The Brahma-Viharas are:

Metta (lovingkindness) translates both as friendship and also gentle, as in a gentle rain that falls indiscriminately upon everything. Metta practice is a steady, unconditional sense of connection that touches all beings without exception, including ourselves. The Buddha first taught it as an antidote to fear.

Compassion is our caring human response to suffering. A compassionate heart is non-judgmental and recognizes all suffering—our own and that of others—as deserving of tenderness.

Sympathetic Joy is the realization that others’ happiness is inseparable from our own. We rejoice in the joy of others and are not threatened by another’s success.

Equanimity is the spacious stillness of mind that provides the ground for the boundless nature of the other three qualities. This radiant calm enables us to ride the waves of our experience without getting lost in our reactions.

The lotus is the symbol of spiritual growth, the sacred, the pure. The legend relates that when Buddhist Siddhartha, who later became the Buddha, touched the ground and made his first seven steps, where the foot grew seven lotus flowers. The Buddhas are shown seated in meditation on lotus flowers fully open, symbolizing the spread of spiritual vision. The original meaning of this symbolism can be seen by the following similarity: like the lotus that grows from the darkness of the mud to the surface, opening only after the flowers have been built beyond the surface of the water, leaving their flowers free of mud and water which nourished in the same way the mind, born in the human body, expands their true qualities (the petals) having built up the passion of turbid fluid and ignorance, making the power of the dark deep in the pure nectar of Conscience radiating Iluminada the lotus flower (Padma).
Similarly, the arahant (holy man) grows beyond this world and beyond. Although its roots are deep in this dark world, its lies, is the built in full light. He is the living synthesis of the deepest and highest, of darkness and light, material and immaterial, the limitations of individuality and universality indefinitely, and without the formed shape of Samsara and Nirvana. But if the impetus for the light was not asleep in the seed deeply hidden in the darkness of the mud, the lotus can not turn toward the light. If the push for greater awareness and knowledge no longer be sleeping in a state of profound ignorance, a light could never stand the darkness of Samsara. The seed of light is always present in the world and in the same way as the Buddhas in the world occurred in past cycles, also occur in this cycle and emerge in the future, as long as appropriate conditions for organic life and conscious.
We must learn and practice not to get fixed the same ideas in order to be open to other viewpoints and experiences.
We are aware that knowledge is variable and we have no absolute truth.
The truth is found in existence and watch all the time, both in our interior and around us, ready to learn through our own life.
Love is the child you will leave the world
