Tu (pronounced like 2) biShvat - the 15th day of the Jewish month of Shevat is the day that was declared in the time of the Mishna (Ancient scholars of the Bible) as the New Year for the Trees. Here in Israel we celebrated it (on Monday Feb. 9, 2009) by planting new trees in Eretz Israel and enjoy eating dried fruit of the trees and bushes like almonds, dates, raisins, dry figs and nuts. The blossoming almond tree is the symbol of the feast and our yard tree is blessed with pink large flowers as shown on my blessing card.
Just love a tree, hug him and pray for its growing, our growing.

the verse in my card is:
Deuteronomy Chapter 20, versus 19:
When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by wielding an axe against them; for thou mayest eat of them, but thou shalt not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of thee?
