All the human frailties at once, augmented by the power of population, technology and hypnotic mass media brainwashing, are the obstacles. However the single greatest obstacle to peace is the business of War, the profitability of War, and the fact that nations are able to go to War, again and again throughout history, by whipping up the fear of a populace with media, inciting national tribalism with religion and dogma, cynically manipulating the desire to belong and defend the tribe with demagoguery, and then profiteering from the irrational expenditure of blood and treasure.
Can we change the world?
Definitely
More about me
I am a social media pioneer and user experience expert developing "discovery" technology to help raise human consciousness. http://twitter.com/brookscole I believe the peace fix is to elevate and educate individuals and communities to rise to a level of emotional and physical self-sufficiency to inoculate them against this cynical manipulation. I believe that the rapid rise of internet-driven social media, relocalization, self-sustainability and the slow demise of corporate media war propaganda will help immeasurably in raising the level of awareness of the populace and make a more fertile ground for peace and cultural resilience.
