When it comes to peace, how would you describe yourself?
I am a pacifist
What do you believe are the 'burning issues' today?
Other
So what is it?
Forgetting our divine heritage and our soul's purpose
What must we overcome to achieve peace?
Fear
More
I believe that harmful thoughts, feelings and actions stem from fear. I believe that fear generally arises from childhood wounds, when we are the most helpless, vulnerable, dependent and impressionable. When fear is chronic or intense, our brain creates defense mechanisms to protect us from full conscious awareness of overwhelming pain. Chronic defenses lead to a false self that keeps us in a childhood dependent state, thinking that the problem and solution are external. Healing our childhood and reclaiming our true self allows us to remember the peace, happiness, health and fulfillment that exists within us. When we feel, think and act from our true self, that energy positively affects our world.
Can we change the world?
Definitely

FREE TO BE

By Mary Cook, M.A., R.A.S.

Our minds can enslave us in fear, judgment, pettiness, perfectionism and arrogance, removing wisdom, common sense and intuition. Depression, anxiety and anger can attack our hearts, depleting hope and vitality. Then we don’t want to hurt anymore so we close our heart, locking in negative energy. Defense mechanisms keep us dysfunctional, stagnant and regressed, damming up the… Continue

ARE WE HAPPY YET?

By Mary Cook, M.A., R.A.S.

Happiness cannot be captured in reaching goals or through obtaining what we desire. Security is not something we can possess, give or receive. Freedom cannot be won or awarded. Learning does not occur through written and spoken words. Peace is not a presence that comes at the end of strife or war. Love does not complete us, mend us or save us. For anything to evolve or resolve, we must accept our present condition, empty ourselves of… Continue

THE VIRTUE OF HUMILITY

Mary Cook, M.A., R.A.S.

Humility is not self-deprecation, impoverishment, shame or humiliation. It is not codependence, inferiority or passivity. Neither is it lack of personal caretaking or responsibility. Humility is recognizing that we see a tiny fraction of ourselves and life, and that everything is much greater than our physical senses and human awareness indicate. Humility is believing there is a deeper dimension in spirit, and that higher… Continue

PERSPECTIVES ON HOPE

Mary Cook, M.A., R.A.S.

The 23rd Psalm in the Bible offers hope, solace and wisdom. The active addicts’ rendition of this psalm is a different story. I offer you both here.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Drugs are my God. They give me all that I need.

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside still waters.”

I crash after a good drug run. This forces me to be still for a… Continue

BANQUET OF LIFE

By Mary Cook, M.A., R.A.S.

Our earliest experiences with nourishment have a significant effect on our desire to live and ability to thrive in life. How we are fed as infants and children stimulates blissful or stressful feelings. How long we must wait to be fed, following hunger pains, and to what degree we absorb, digest and make use of necessary nutrients, are important factors in our sense of safety and comfort.

The emotional and mental… Continue
