MIAMI SWIM WAS A LESSON IN WHY FASHION WEEKS NEED AN ORGANIZER

Attendees and participants in the annual Miami Swim Week found themselves in a tough spot when title sponsor Mercedes-Benz pulled out of the event earlier this year, along with chief organizer IMG. And with multiple production companies putting on shows — and no overarching governing body — the event was unsurprisingly disjointed for 2015.

Even the dates were unclear: While Funkshion, a production company that put on a series of shows, kicked things off on Wednesday, the first…

The exploding diversity of destination weddings

It took my breath away.

The beautiful bride and her handsome groom saying their vows before a minister they knew well, standing on a platform decorated with fresh flowers under a billowing white huppah, or canopy, fashioned in part from a hand-embroidered family heirloom amid the soaring California Redwoods surrounded by family and friends, some perched on blankets in a semi-circle surrounding them.

Most had traveled hundreds if not thousands of miles to join the weekend-long…

What exactly is a 'royal harpist'?

To all the other unconventional jobs and titles connected to British royalty (Warden of the Swans, Queen’s Piper, Black Rod, Silver Stick), now you can add another: Royal Harpist.

Yep, it’s a real position in the household of Prince Charles the Prince of Wales, who revived the job 15 years ago and on Wednesday announced his latest Official Harpist, Anne Denholm.

The young (23) and acclaimed Welsh harpist and Cambridge grad, is the fifth person to get the royal nod. (She…

3 Ways to Be More 'Bride' and Less 'Zilla'

Some claim that you don't see a person's true colors until you start planning your wedding. Most of the time dealing with all of the personalities is much harder than dealing with the actual planning itself. For some reason, I've found that weddings have a way of turning even the most mild-mannered, normal human beings into Gary Busey.

That being said, here are three ways to be a little more 'Bride' and a little less 'Zilla.'

1. Ask and Ye Shall Receive

Wedding planning…

Figure-Hugging Qipao Ignites Interest in Fashion Anew

A qipao, which was was once a heavy and shapeless robe Manchu ladies wore, is now popular again. A qipao is a modern figure-hugging dress Shanghai women considered a must on their wedding day. Six decades later, the dress still stands as an unspoken Chinese icon despite twists and turns.

China's first lady, Peng Liyuan, ignited public interest when she wore qipao-style dresses while accompanying her husband during state visits. The "Liyuan style," according to fashion experts, will…

Ted Cruz And The False Narrative Of Christian Persecution

If you ask Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) about the state of religious freedom in America, you are likely to get an earful on how Christians in this country are being forced to live through some terrible era of religious persecution.

Speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition summit in Iowa, Cruz told his audiencethat “There is a liberal fascism that is dedicated to going after believing Christians who follow the biblical teaching on marriage,” and that there is “no room for Christians…

Port-au-Prince: Diameter, width, thickness – nothing is left to chance as Brazilian jewelry designer Ana Suassuna trains Haitian artisans how to shape cow horns into fashionable bracelets.

As sanders whir in the background, Suassuna surveys the work being done in a small studio in the heart of bustling Port-au-Prince.

“They know better than me how to work with horn,” she said.
