Farewell Friend

I don´t know what to do
Helpless and confused
as I take the call from her son
and fear and anguish
resonate.

Too far too far away
to offer solace or support
too far too far away
to hold a hand dying, a heart
shattering.

I know not what to do
to answer the taunts of anger
that cut like a knife through
the silence of the bleak
descending.

Unfair, unfair, unfair all around
She went too soon,
the mother beloved of the child,
orphaned at nine
of son and daughter and grandson;

A parting that left behind a trail of turmoil
of hearts broken beyond repair
of emotions run riot in a world
of despair,
and yet

She lay angelic at peace
with the world, a veil of love
ascending, a message to hold close
to heal the wounds
unfolding;
a gift of life
of hope
all consuming.
