An event for world peace needs to be international in scope, A serious call for the end to war, hopeful, spirited and non violent.
Things that come to mind:
It should be overall a hopeful event with some acknowledgement of the losses due to war. Solidarity and a global scope is very important. We are making a unified cry for peace.
COLOR and Solidarity:
Some of the things I envision is a string of flags designed by ordinary people every where expressing their thoughts and feelings about peace or loss.
They could be color coded by country or situation or that could be left open. They could be made from your brothers shirt who was lost to warfare. My hope is that this string of flags will be interconnected and perhaps with countries dispersed and spread out but not necessarily. It will travel to heads of state every where to display the solidarity of people all over the world in their call for peace. On the Mall in Washington DC, Kensington Gardens, where ever national demonstrations are held in your country. The flags would be of a uniform size 12 by 12 or 16 by 16 for example.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Statistics of dead and wounded posted on cards. drumbeats to honor the dead. Could be expanded to include the monetary expense of war and how many mouths could be fed with that money. Loss of homes, jobs, businesses, families. The rattle of keys to represents homes that are no longer standing.
PETITIONS table: where people can sign letters for peace.
INTERNET CONNECTIONS where world wide demonstrations can be viewed or perhaps announcement about other simultaneous events can be made. As part of being an international event we should know where other events are being held.
Dancing, marching and chanting might be part of the event. The events should be inclusive (handicapped accessible) and multi generational, those unable to dance or march could staff tables. It would be good to involve longstanding international peace organizations as well as other groups and individuals.
