SERLINGPA RETREAT CENTER´S CONTRIBUTION TO WORLD PEACE IN MEXICO
Origin of the name of the Retreat Center:
Serlingpa was a grat scholar and a very revered teacher around the year 1000 from India who went to settle His temple in Borobudur, Jakarta. He was the fundamental piece in being the person who clarified organized and transmitted the teachings of impersonal/ altruistic love which one of His most relevant students, the pandit Atisha, brought to India and then to Tibet where this teachings became the basis of the Tibetan´s famous emphasis on Compassion (Bodhicchita).
If there is a human quality which might bring PEACE ON EARTH, this is
compassion; The starting point of compassion is tolerance, consideration and respect. This qualities in a higher scale transforms into
love and compassion.
Serlingpa Retreat Center, holder of Serlingpa´s holy name, nowadays believes that there are two fundamental areas in which Peace should mostly get started:
1. RELIGION. Many violent facts in the world are based in the differences and confrontations of religious beliefs. To disregard, Judge, dismiss or putting down other people´s beliefs, with the erroneous view that only our belief is the right one, shows lack of love, tolerance, respect and compassion. So Serlingpa Center is a space open to ALL religions and respects all beliefs. Respect and consideration for other people´s forms of devotion is a primordial means to get along with dignity and harmony in every society. So we invite EVERYONE to respect the way all others around decide to believe.
2. EDUCATION: In order to create a new humanity whose basic principles may be equanimity, tolerance and respect, the creation of new education resources, activities and programs must be enhanced. Serlingpa Center supports the International Organization www.essential-education.org, and it´s creation of the 16 guidelines for a happy life which we very much encourage everyone to apply them and adapt them to any human area and to all ages such as schools, Univerisites, Institutions, camps, enterprises, teacher´s programs, leadership training, religions, etc. Check basic principles in: www.16guidelines.org
Through a branch of activities which we call Shambala Camps, Serlingpa Center promotes and applies the methods of Essential Education through the 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life, which is a set of attitudes for inner and outer peace, correct behaviour, courtesy and consideration for others, on a non religious basis.
