The Blinding Act of Faith
The American Heritage Dictionary defines Faith as:
1.Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
2.Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. See Synonyms at belief, trust.
3.Loyalty to a person or thing; allegiance: keeping faith with one's supporters.
4.often Faith Christianity The theological virtue defined as secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God's will.
5.The body of dogma of a religion: the Muslim faith.
6.A set of principles or beliefs.
The importance of faith, to believe in someone or something, is the ultimate act of trust. Carrying faith in our fellow man, and to believe someone is going to come through like they promised. Is a tall order. Let alone putting the trust into something that can not be seen in a huge undertaking. Many of us at one time or another had lost faith and believed that we needed to look out for number one. Then maybe things had spiraled down into such depths that we started to believe that something more powerful than otherselves could help climb back up.
And maybe we did make the slow, but steady climb back up, but what happened to a few of us once we started to making progress? We decided to take the reins and take back control. Even though it was by us taking control that spiraled us down in the first place. But the human ego is a strange design. We start to find away to climb out of the depth, and as we see the light. We decide that we got this. Yes, some do make it out then, but most of the time what happens is we end up back down the slippery slope for which we came. Then the process starts over again.
Twisted little minds in a twisted little life. We hit bottom at times then we put faith into floating back up to the top, again. Hoping to catch our breath and maybe make it back to safety. What about those who have to stay under longer? The one's who almost or do drowned? Those who never fully reach safety. Did they really deserve what they got? Who are we to judge what is justified, or whose way of living is right or wrong?
Many make it succeessfully through life devoid of faith. Many who are full of faith don't make through so well. What makes any of us so much different? Is it the path we chose? What we have learned and our ability to retain? Our educational background? The idea that we believe in more? The willingness to just close our eyes and take that first step forward? What is it?
The faith in the human condition. The faith in an unseen greater power. The faith in faith alone is an amazing, at times scary concept. The willingness to let go and the belief that all will unfold as it should. Is as bold and brave as any one given moment in anybody's life as it gets. And you get it. At this moment someone is out there and they just now get it.
