Gaden Jangtse Monks
Developed over centuries, with wisdom passed from Master to student for generations, Tibetan sacred arts include intricate mandalas formed from grains of brightly coloured sand, delicate sculptures crafted from butter, deeply resonant monastic chanting, and graceful ritual dances.
The skill and understanding of how to create these works, has been carried across the Himalayas from Tibet to India, by Tibetan refugees.
In the fall of 2009, five monks from Gaden Jangtse Monastery, South India, will tour British Columbia sharing their beautiful craft in the Vancouver area, the Sunshine Coast, and Vancouver Island.
The tour is sponsored by Tsengdok Monastery, in Vancouver. All proceeds will be used to provide food, medical care, and education for monks at Gaden Jangtse Monastery, many of whom are recent refugees from Tibet.
The Gaden Jangtse monks are delighted to share their appreciation for the arts, and for the sacred, with the people of British Columbia. All are welcome to join the experience.
