I was accepted into a journalistic writing program called WriteOn for Israel and we just had the second session in San Francisco. This program consists of 20 intelligent, peaceful, high school juniors and a few supervisors, writers, and one grad student. We did a mock press conference and another girl, Sam, and i had a news update powerpoint presentation. We did stories on the current crisis, Obama, university Hillel groups, but my favorite story was one about a little Palestinian baby boy who was diagnosed with a severe heart defect and required major surgery. The Palestinian doctor knew that the only hospital who had the right technological advances was one in Israel so she called an Israeli colleague and asked for his help. He agreed to help and together they performed a complicated life-saving surgery for this innocent baby and his family . The baby boy is now happy and healthy, he will grow up knowing that collaboration and peace between Israelis and Palestinians is possible. This story gives me hope that peace will be achieved, i imagine that little boy growing up better person knowing peace and love triumph over all.
