I'm the one on the right. I visited Honningsvag when I was working for Swissair in 1978. The picture was taken around 10:00 pm. I was just so amazed that the Sun did an ellipse in the sky, but never came close to the horizon.
A few days later we were at Alta and there was a discotheque around (We were only there for a day or so, so I don't remember much). I remember walking outside at around 3:00 am tired, drunk and just wanting to go to bed. And it was like noon!!! I remember looking up and saying, "Alright, wise guy. I'm going back in. You turn the light off, THEN I'll come back out, okay??"

A FELICIDADE É BELA
É tão belo quando chegas de dentro do silêncio
Para a infinita solidão de meus braços
É tão bonito quando irrompes inquieta
De dentro desse sonho azul sem janelas
Parece um pássaro depois de esquecer nas
Esquinas sua pétala de vento
Um pequeno mar solto no vazio que em
meus olhos tua ausência plantou feito um
cálice cego e mais belo ainda é quando chegas
Feito um milagre com asas
Em meu coração louco de espera
E tua entrega ecoa num clarão desnudo
É lindo quando teu corpo sussurra

My family is from Northern Norway. The Olden family. In particular, I know Torkel Ranum and Sigrid Ridderrvold. They are from trondheim and Hvalstad respectively. His father was Olaf Ranum who was the conductor of the orchestra there ,I believe. I write a family newsletter every 3 months to send to them about their family in the US (that would be me and the others here).
I went to Honnigsvag once to see the Sun at midnight. It was cool. On the way back, we stopped at Trondheim. I wanted to call some of my family there to tell them I'm a distant relative. I found out that there are about 2,999 pages of Oldens in the phone directory. So I gave up, bought a pewter mug and we flew home.
The book cover you see at the top was a book written by another relative, Ana margrete Wiibe Olden. She was in the concentration camp during WWII. After the war, they sent her to Southern Norway to recover. That's where she wrote the book.
Hey, I don't know if you have heard of the movie, Sicko, by Michael Moore. It shows the US how bad our health care system is. The news media railed against Moore for showing other countries that have a better system. Well, guess what. He DIDN'T show this part. This is one of the best health care systems from one of the best countries on Earth. You will see how the news media attacks Moore and pretends that the US is number 1 (we're actually #37), but then watch the one country he had to cut from his movie because it was TOO GOOD!!
