Abelia, thanks for your thoughts. It sounds like you and your family has been on a difficult journey, not easy to talk about emotionally, or make sense of, especially when it throws into question our most sacred beliefs, and exposes our fears, anxieties, questions about God or conclusions about the seeming meaninglessness of life, etc. Sometimes it's easier just to close up and withdraw into our own world. Yes, much of life is a mystery. I don't mean to be simplistic to say this, but I believe we find closeness in each other because of this.. we need each other to find meaning in each other's care and sympathy when nothing else is certain or understandable. At least we can have each other.. on this journey. To me, this is part of the beauty of the mystery and the unknown. :) In peace, David
Abelia, forgive my delay to reply. Your thoughts are intriguing.. and thanks for your interest in my response to your note .. (http://www.ipeace.me/group/allipeacepoepleinonegroup/forum/topics/fear-of-death). I agree that fear of death because of the unknown and because of the meaningful nature of life and of love is real for most people. Most of us do not look forward to death, though some, especially those who have had near-death experiences or strong genuine beliefs in a positive afterlife or form of transcendence, have no fear of it. Many for whom this life is hell, or who live with depression or great pain, look toward death as an escape. Personally, I enjoy my life and my relationships a great deal and want to live and make the best of life in this world for myself and for others who share this life with me.
Many, as you say, don't even want to talk about it.. for many there are associations with judgment and guilt, damnation, pain, terrible consequences for things they've done or left undone. You spoke of rigid bars of beliefs that cannot be challenged or questioned without losing everything they've held sacred and dear. This is terribly unfortunate. I believe our spirituality is something to be explored freely and enjoyed and probed without fear.
As for me, I will say I believe in a personal God who is best characterized by love, and that we need not fear God, nor death, nor be overwhelmed by the evils and sufferings of life in this dimension. I see life as a gift to be enjoyed and explored freely, and questioned, and probed with the best of our intelligence, and that we are, as we've said, in some way eternal spirits that are interconnected and interdependent.. I think our perceptions of the God-Mind-Source will color our thoughts about the nature of life after life.. I am interested in your thoughts as well.
Take care,
David
Thanks for these insightful reflections, which continue to resonate in so many ways.. yes, there is much we cannot know for sure, so much we must surmise as best we can from the world as we perceive it. I too have had this sense on occasion of this present world [this 'skin of the onion'] being some passing phase in which we test our spirit enroute to a higher reality. I think there is a measure of truth in this except that I cannot escape the scientific/pragmatic side of me which recognizes a 'reality' and an order that strangely contradicts itself. Its internal laws of physics suggest matter would not order itself to produce what we see, that it would collapse into some random buzz of particles and energy in a blackhole. So I am forced to wonder at it, and its incredible beauty and complexity, and my own existence and incredible sophistication, capable of thought, moral perception, etc all qualities matter per se does not evidence..
Your suggestion that our spiritualities are all bound together as One Mind, yet separate, resonates with me, yet I realize too, if I am part of the Source/Mind, I am not enough 'at one' with it to comprehend our physical world.."miracle" of nature that it is.. This greater Mind is far beyond my ability to 'resonate' with its magnitude this side of 'the onion skin'.. as you say:
"I imagine God-Source...may be watching us with a smile..." ;)
Thank you Abelia. I'm glad you enjoyed my art. If you are again in Virginia, you must stop by.. and I would love some day to visit Argentina as well. :)
Your thoughts for Source as One Mind, connote intelligence and "spirit" (something at least personal, if not indeed somehow beyond it). These are the thoughts I too have as I consider the idea of a creative/pervasive Mind in the universe. My thoughts are that we are created "in the image" of this Spirit to some extent, as morally cognizant creatures. I agree it is difficult to come to terms with a personal (moral) God given the evil we see in the world. The only sense I can make of it is that the possibility for good and evil is the "price" of a moral order. I imagine that a God of love cries too, as we do, in the face of such evil. The joy in seeing compassion respond to it is the "reward" of a moral universe. I'm not sure there is meaning or nobility or "dignity" in an "amoral universe" where neither good nor evil could exist. I'm interested in your thoughts. Kind regards,
David
Interesting thoughts, Abelia.. I resonate with your perspectives very much. The beauty is they offer reason to look forward to the "transition" beyond physical life where our spiritual essence is free to live without restrictions. What do you see as the "scheme" of things in that realm of spirit? Is there a creative Source for the physical world as we know it here? I find it difficult to conceive this as a random product of particles and energy. What is it's relationship with the spiritual.. does that realm interact with us to engage our understanding of its existence and truth? Questions I ask myself about the meaning of our existence.. ;)
Kind regards,
David
I welcome your friendship and I am excited to meet someone who holds the same fascination and interest in reincarnation. I read a book when I was in my teens called The Search for Bridey Murphy. I highly recommend it if you have not read it yet. Reading that book set me onto the path or my interest in reincarnation. I had a near death experience about five years ago and I had a life review that flashed across to me, and also a previous life review. When I was a child I always used to dream about another family, another home, at another place. It used to seem so real to me, I could not explain it to anyone...they laughed mostly. Well when I had my NDE it was shown to me that that other family I kept dreaming about had been my family in the 1800s. So now I am POSITIVE we have had previous lives. We will have fun talking about this I am sure.
Abelia, I too find it interesting to think that we may have a transcendent connection with each other somehow. I believe we have a unique spiritual essence and identity, but that we also move in some way in a realm that is not completely bound by our physical bodies, like you say. Difficult to conceptualize, but I too sense at times a connection to thoughts and perceptions that come from elsewhere, sometimes from a deeply insightful, affirming, loving Source; other times, simply a sense of understanding, connection, or insight into another person I may know. I believe too we have an essence that transcends and will survive beyond our physical bodies. Interesting too though that "we" are limited by, and confined to, our physical bodies and their mental/physical capacities in the present. I watched my father-in-law struggle with Alzheimers, many questions about where his "spirit" was as his mental capacities to remember and express himself changed.. :) Take care, David
