Hi im,

Yes, I make the all jewelry in my photos. Not such a great photographer, I have to admit, but metal casting and jewelry design are my passion and I must show them to people, somehow.

I picked up the craft of metal casting about 15 years ago. I also make molds.
Many of the designs I create involve the use of antique jewelry molds from the early to mid 20th century. These rubber molds have been long retired from commercial production and I recycle the basic forms into new, one-of-a-kind pieces.
I use antique Czech and Austrian crystals, unusual old glass "stones" and natural accents (pearls & shell) in my work. Bright, uncommon colors really turn me on! I love to put things together that many classic jewelers consider contrasting or even conflicting. A fellow jewelry maker once said to me (in the most complementary way) "Mari, you make things go together that DON'T go together. And it works.Only you can get away with that!"

Yes, I get away with it, alright. Nobody is judging me as I lay out my designs and pour molten lead-free metal into molds. I do not choose to use precious materials like gold, platinum and silver. Really don't like the way rich mine owners treat their workers! Same way some concerned folks feel about "blood diamonds", I guess.

I use a lead-free pewter alloy (mainly tin, in composition) and reuse every gram that doesn't make it into a project. Just melt it down again and again. Then I finish and polish the metal using only water in a vibrating tub. No chemicals or caustic solutions.

Totally "green" and recycled (but BEAUTIFUL) materials are the only things I will use to make my jewelry. It's brand new design concepts incorporating old and interesting objects. Hey, it works for me!
