It's a great picture.

That's a lovely memory, and a really good description of what happened too.

I remember sitting near a stream once, trying to get in some meditation, when I heard some squeaking and opened my eyes to see a black ball come tumbling down a steep incline. As it hit little bumps along the way, it squeaked some more, and sounded like little 'oomphs'. When it stopped, it split apart to reveal two baby mongooses wrestling and chasing after each other. That sealed it for me. I was a fan ever since.

I know what you mean about when your pets kill anything. Sophie's Jack Russell comes from a line of deadly killers and does it so quickly, though we try to keep her way from where she might find any but living where we do it's almost impossible. George on the other hand is no good at all and not so long ago caught a rat, it's squeaking was horrid to hear, but he let it go, which was a relief and it ran away unhurt..... he is a soft mouthed breed!

Cairn's are good ratters too, you are right, it's inbuilt in most terriers. Dogs kill quickly, but cats play with their victims, I don't like that at all. It upsets us a great deal when anything gets killed, they are always given a good send off with lots of blessings.

When I was young a girl from our village had a pet fox that she treated like a dog. You never know you might come across a baby mongoose one day out on a walk.

Yup. Actually, Augie's breed is supposed to be a better ratter than any cat, but I don't want my boy to go after 'em. He has the instinct, but the thought of it is too gross. He has brought lizards to me sometimes. Poor little guys....

Its said that if you can find a mongoose before its two weeks old, it can bond with you, and will make the best pet ever. I saw one Nat Geo couple who had one as they filmed wildlife in Africa, It was really cute and curious. But I haven't heard of anyone here who's tried it yet.

They are cute.......

mongoose Pictures, Images and Photos

Hawaii should have given every family a Jack Russell, they would have got rid of their rat problem in less than a week!

No..... I don't think there is any interference at all, it's just purist with too much time on their hands and too much money to spend too.

I could not help but have a little chuckle to myself about the mongoose to cure the rat problem and not thinking they are both out at different times. I like rates, probably not a very pc thing to say, have you watched the film , Ratatouille?

I don't know what a mongoose looks like...... I will have a look on google.

That's sad. Do they think the new species are interfering with native plants? That happens here a lot. Yeah, when people tinker with the balance it usually goes all to hell...Here's a famous "genius" moment in Hawaiian ecology...

We had a rat problem here in the 1800's. Still do, probably, but its not so flagrant. Anyway, they decided to find a predator to eradicate the rats. They chose the mongoose. Imported them. Then found out....the mongoose is a day hunter and rats are nocturnal. Now we have both critters running about.

Actually, I like the mongoose. The babies are extremely cute.

I don't really know what it was about in particular, it just seem to be a reflection of all that is going on, in most of the countries world wide.

I liked the love story bit too, but I don't think the graphic book concentrated on that as much as the film did. I guess the film makers wanted to put something in for the girls!

V for Vendetta was a 'powerful' film and not one that I would usually watch, but I got hocked into it and shut out the violence.

I don't live far from Pooh's bridge, but I have never been or taken the offspring there either..... glad that it's preserved. Very sweet video :)

There is a wood in England that I heard of recently that is under threat, it was planted by someone famous, but I can't remember his name, will do some digging and get back on that one. The whole point though is that he planted the wood with species that are not native to England so the Woodland Trust want to remove/kill all the 'foreign' trees and replant the wood with native varieties..... I can't understand it myself, as it's a legacy that this man left, the variety is part of it's treasure. It's not the first time that the Woodland Trust have had stupid ideas..... several years ago they took all the dead wood out of the forests they manage to "tidy them up" so to speak. Now they are killing healthy trees because they realised that the dead, dying and decaying wood was vital to the eco system of the wood.... these people go to university, have an armful of degrees and not an ounce of common sense among them!
