Fear underlies every conflict, whether in a family, community, between communities and countries. When individuals or nations feel insecure or threatened they retreat into prejudice and hatred; they are more susceptible to manipulation and more prone to violence. All the other items on this list derive from some type of fear. The antidote, of course, is love.

I support the Peace Alliance campaign to create a cabinet-level department of peace and non-violence in the US federal government. ThePeaceAlliance.org has a great website that explains the bill currently before Congress, with details about mission, organization, etc. I see my work as raising awareness about this effort. It is something concrete, feasible and worthwhile that anyone engaged in any type of peacework can support.
