A member of the freedom generation,

I sang the anthem of instant gratification.

I walked the walk, and now I talk the talk.

I had to be me, I had to be free.

Free to take that toke,

Free to cuss when I spoke,

Free to light that joint and take my poke,

Free to swill alcohol until I choked.

To spend the rent money on the ponies.

I wasn’t cool, just another phony.

I am the voice within

The child who recoils

From your horrific world,

Filled with confusion and pain.

I whisper “stay out”,

Lest you disturb our holy contemplation.

With your sharp intrusions of chaos and dissonance,

Weapons of your world of illusion and strife.

The pulsing of warm blood through his supple veins,

The interior light which glows with each breath.

I never sought this woeful existence

This futile endeavor of vain persistence

Safe and secure in my prior autistic night

Sensory driven through touch, taste and sight

The simple joy of breath and warm sunlight

A heart beating in my chest with all its might

The soft lush panorama of flowers in rows

The silky caress of grasses on naked toes

Attuned to the cacophony I could hear it

Animals and trees spoke in spirit

Mellow and mild a soft wind hisses,

Beckoning me back to white wine kisses,

Purple ribbons round white fences twisted,

Peppermint moons and marshmallow fishes.



An angel's call prompts me thither,

To blue green waters and rushing rivers,

To soft sweet sobs and hot pink faces,

Outstretched arms and warm embraces.



The silky slide of palms o'er tender skin,

Of cobblestone streets and apricot gin,

Headfirst into deepest blue… Continue

Inner peace - how elusive and yet so essential. Like trying to grasp air. I spent my entire life chasing it. Angry and hurt because I couldn't attain it. Mad at God because he wouldn't grant it, banging my fists against the altar until they bled. Defiant, haughty, and proud, I kept pushing further and further away, until I realized!
