Achilles Heal
By james a. galgano
The bulletproof embankment with strained smile tilted to the left
Crawls as a baby to complete each chore set before each day
In a manner that depicts an almost cartoonish quality begging delight
While routine now cast into seeks to find a path back to sanity undetected
With aged eyes peering through medicated vision lingers unforeseen
Almost fulfilling prophecy as a stereotypical character in another’s dream
Going through the motions dodging every obstacle provoking pain
Where there is nothing to regain what has been lost almost thoroughly complete
By mere chance or accident upon living room floor easily consigned
To the worries that often overcome a once countenanced grimace self defined
Knowing less than full well each domino now descending without detection
Awaits some distant destination belying each obvious imperfection intact
As if to exact an incongruous inclination to remedy hesitantly forsworn
Born of some unintentional misapprehension at the other end seen tunnel’s light
Be it oncoming train or incontinent disdain for another impending plight
Here is where time is so bright it blinds us to memory seeking to remind thus
That there is something more to be achieved once hopes have been deceived
Leaving nothing to relieve the quandary stained upon soiled sleeve contrite
Often overwhelming yet never fully confusing that come what may it might
Resurrect some promise of redemption or a facsimile of undeniable dismay
Depicted in a cartoon crawlspace leaving routine to recover into inevitable decay
