As an American Jewish woman who has lived in Thailand for over 21 years, while studying the Buddha Dharma for more than 30, it is very painful to accept Israel's bombing of Gaza and all bombing for that matter. Seeing precious children, who belong to the human race just like Israeli and all childen, barbarically lose their limbs and lives because of total lack of compassion, total lack of metta, love, wisdom and devotion to life and peace is just too demanding to watch without saying a word. . .
I seldom express myself politically. Running from politics for most of my adult life now I am being hit straight in the genes--I am deeply saddened to see the pictures and read the stories and know that the US is totally behind Israel in every way.
The hate that is being passed around like a ball of fire among the Jewish community in America disgusts me and makes me very angry--and embarrassed to say I am Jewish.
Here is one video I just watched

A recent article I read in the divining the news blog from Uri Avnary's column called "How Many Divisions?" also gives tremendous clarity to the propaganda that represents that ball of fire.

As our upcoming president must soon make his statement on the Gaza massacre, I am anxiously waiting to see where he will stand. His decision will say a lot for me, as like a lot of people, who wanted him from the beginning for his Martin Luther King dynamics, I want to see him stand up for Peace with the courage of MLK and the compassion of a saint!
Will he be able to do that? I pray so.
Here is an article that came out yesterday on the Common Dreams enews site. The thoughts here are well written. I resonate with Ru Freeman in this article entitled "The First Mistake: Obama's Silence on Gaza".

Here it is a cool Janurary night on the beautiful island of Koh Samui. The sea has been raging since the full moon in Cancer a few days ago; bigger waves, stronger current, harder winds than usual from the North and the temperatures like melted glaciers diluted with tropical warmth. Waves pound against the shore pulling the roots from the coconut trees out from the sand. The erosion worries me more and more each year with another row of trees being taken away.
How much longer can the world watch the horror of our brothers and sisters of Palestine be stripped of every last root to their homeland. How much longer can the Israeli people think that they can destroy a whole people for their own benefit. Its time to see we are ONE people.

It has now occurred to me that my commitment and passive participation in ending this war will come through creating a Fasting for Peace group.
I will fast until the war in Gaza has ended. If it is a day or a month or a year, starting on Monday, January 20th I will not eat any food but will only drink liquids.
Fasting is a very powerful sacred sword and statement to make for peace. The healing power of fasting is unfathomable.
I hope others will join me. If so I am happy to lead you on the path of Fasting for Peace.
Love, Blessings and Peace to All,
Hillary
