The painting here represents an aspiring meditator who is following the path consisting of the stages of meditation that ends in the accomplishment of a calmly abiding mind and beginning of the practice of insight meditation. At the bottom we see the practitioner, who holds a rope in one hand and a hook in the other, chasing after an elephant led by a monkey. The elephant represents the meditator’s mind; a wild or untrained elephant can be dangerous and wreak enormous destruction, but once trained will obey and do hard work the same holds true for the mind. Any suffering that we have now is due to the mind being like a wild, untrained elephant. The elephant also has very big footp0rints; these symbolize the mental defilements. If we work at improving our minds. Inner peace will be the reward. From the suffering of the hells to the happiness of the Buddha’s, it is the mind’s activity that rises to them all.
At the start of the path the elephant is black, which represents dullness or sinking of the mind. The monkey leading the elephant represents distraction. A monkey cannot keep quiet for a moment- it is always chattering or fidgeting and finds everything attractive. Just as the monkey is in front leading the elephant, our attention is distracted by sensory objects of taste, touch, sound, smell and vision. These are symbolized by food, cloth, musical instruments, perfume and a mirror. The person behind the elephant represents the meditator trying to train the mind. The rope in the meditator’s hand is mindfulness and the hook is awareness. Using these two tools the meditator will try to tame and control his mind. Fire is shown at different points along the path to represent the energy necessary for concentration. Notice that the fire gradually decreases at each of the ten stages of calm abiding, as less energy is needed to concentrate. It will glare up again at eleventh stage, when we start practicing insight meditation.
In the beginning, just as the elephant following the monkey pays no attention to the person chasing after it, the practitioner has no control over his or her mind. In the second stage, the practitioner, who has almost caught up with elephant, is able to throw the rope around the elephant’s neck. It looks back; this is the third stage, where the mind can be restrained a little by mindfulness. Here a rabbit appears on the elephants back, symbolizing subtle dullness, which might earlier have seemed to be a state of concentration, but now can be recognized for the harmful factor that it is. In these early stages we have to use mindfulness more than awareness.
At the fourth stage the elephant mind is more obedient, so it is less necessary to restrain it with the rope of mindfulness. By the fifth stage the elephant is being led by the rope and hook and the monkey is following behind. At this point we are not much disturbed by distracted attention; mostly we have to use awareness instead of mindfulness. In the painting, the sixth stage of practice is depicted with the elephant and the monkey both following obediently behind the practitioner, who does not even have to look back at them. This means that the practitioner does not have to focus continually on controlling the mind and the absence of the rabbit shows that the subtle dullness which appeared at the third stage has now disappeared.
Upon reaching the seventh stage, the elephant can be left follow of its own accord and the monkey departs; the practitioner has no more use for the rope and hook-distracted attention and dullness occur only occasionally and mildly. At the eight stages the elephant has turned completely white and follows behind the practitioner; this shows that the mind is obedient and there is no sinking or scattering, although some energy is still needed to concentrate. At the ninth stage the practitioner can actually sit in meditation while the elephant sleeps peacefully nearby; at this point the mind can concentrate without effort for long period’s time- days, weeks or even months. The tenth stage, where we see the meditator sitting on top of elephant, signifies the real attainment of a calmly abiding mind. At the last, eleventh stage, the meditator is sitting on the elephant’s back holding a sword. At this point the practitioner begins a new kind of meditation called “higher vision” or insight meditation with which he seeks to realize the nature of reality.

OH DEAR, my dear Sister and Friend O'Douce!
It is such a long time ago... that i sent any message to you... Hopefully, you didn't think i would have forgotten you. Never ever!
There only was sooo much, every single day brought towards me and it is still going on. I cannot remember such a long and intense time of abundance. Somehow it started already about one year ago. I remember, that the Easter-Night was sooo special for me having been to a nice dancing event near the Cologne Cathedreal (i could see it through the window). The feeling of resurrection was so strong and it was such a pleasure to express it with my body while melting with the music. This coming Easter-Night, other people will offer another event in the same space: "Yoga meets the Heartbeat of the Drums".
And looking back to the year that has passed, i only feel joy and gratitude. Yes, a big part of it is the pleasure i have had and still have as a member of iPeace. Especially the feeling to be deeply connected with some of those thousands of members, like YOU, Victor, Denise, Myron and Ria. That is all very special and precious.
During the last two months i noticed, that i cannot stay online for such a long time day after day. That way, i cannot concentrate on the concrete life very well, that is calling me more intensely every day from very different edges. And what i prefer to writing is talking to those i feel deeper connected with. And from those i mentioned above, you are the only one, with whom i have not done that up to now. And i know i would very much enjoy doing that with you, O'Douce. So i'll send you my number in a message...
The picture on the top was already painted in February. You maybe know, that Kara does not like me to send pictures to people she does not know so well and she also does not want them to be published / sent into the internet even if i beg her intensly. But in this case, when she showed this mermaid to me and i told her how much i like it, she at once said (without me mentioning anything like this): "You can send it to O'Douce." She really seems to know you and i think she feels you being a mermaid like this. It wouldn't be the first time, that she notices those morphoenergetic fields around us.
About one month ago (long time after she painted this pic), i shared your comment with her, in that you mentioned, that you would go swimming with the dolphins. She immediately said: "Me, too!" (Abbreviation for: I want to do the same!)
Yes, she is another yourself as i am another herself and as you are another myself. WE ARE OUR SELF.
Do you know, O'Douce, that this morning (on April 8) the Jews all over the world are celebrating Birkat Hachama (Blessing of the Sun), that is only celebrated every 28 years? The central prayer is this one: "Blessed are You, Lord, our G-d, King of the Universe who makes the works of Creation." It is prayed in the morning, when the sun appears. Hopefully, you'll read this message very early in the morning...
Dearest O'DOUCE! "May the LONG TIME SUN shine upon YOU. All LOVE surround YOU. And the PURE LIGHT WITHIN YOU guide your way on." s.
i hope this humble message
finds you in excellent health
and soaring spirit
i hope and pray each and every
of your dreams come true
and you find it in your heart
to allow me to become a friend of you
my thoughts and prayers
are forever with you and your loved ones
always
peace and love,
james

A smiling setting sun
Sat pondering with a quiet smile
Memories of past moons romancing
Dancing on the wind of some forgotten tune
But all of that now seemed so long ago
A month of moons had passed
Without even a reply
The setting sun cast his tired eyes westward
Then disappeared from view
Leaving only wavering shadows
Of what might have been
Within a photograph of you
Yet nothing within your expression
Let on that you ever really knew
Thanks for the pictures. I didn't realise the Blue Galactic Monkey was playing with my head until a while after I sent that message. I love it!
Yes, I remember that beach. that is the one I was telling you and Dave that it had a fire. You will still be able to duplicate this picture, but all the vegetation along the mauka edge of the sand is gone.
I am making my great grandaughter's (much belated) birthday card today. Actually, I have been making it for weeks. I keep going into a trance. She is the one who is my namesake and a Blue Electric Storm...Kinda makes her like the queen of the year. I am finding it simply jaw dropping that I actually found a real picture of the eye of a storm on which to build her glyph...which is my basically my glyph too. I always wondered why there is an eye in the Cauac's glyph...No, Duh!
Don't talk about leaving yet. We haven't spent enough time together.
I love you!
Glad we are friends. Thanks for your comments and for reading my blog. If you go to http://www.execonn.com/sf/ they have done the experiment with plants in soil. I have tried to find my Galactic Signature but got lost half way...
I can feel your sincere heart,
the Love you radiate and shine. Now, I let it shine through me,
illuminating all parts of my existence.
In the following words please find a mirror.
As my Love shines through you, no part of you is in shade.
I love you unconditionally.
I love you, because of who you are, just the way only you can be, the Unique You.
Your Lovelight is no different from the Lovelight of God,of Angels, of any Heart,of my Heart
Looking in the Mirror, I feel Grace.
Like Golden Light embracing my self, the totality of my being..
I feel I am enough.. I feel I am empowered..
..to embrace you in Golden Gracelight, for you are very much loved..
..to Strengthen you in Limitless Lovelight, for you are very much loved..
..to Heighten your being in Infinite Wisdomlight, for you are very much loved..
Because I want to love..
And I do !
So it is.
