Your story about alternators and wind power is very interesting. I really believe in creativity and intelligence, and am working on tools (software) to encourage people to think and learn more, by making a better value feedback system. That may sound a bit vague, but when I launch it, I hope it won't be.

Like you, I was approaching a problem that was complex, but that many people (with a lot more money than I had) had done before me (in your case, electricity, in mine, making web tools sort of like what we're using here, along with various other websites)....and like you, I had no formal training, and the skills were self taught.

Can you imagine a world in which more people asked, why is this being done like this...why not try this? And then they'd try their idea. Everyone becomes a producer. And there are a million things to produce, not just technical stuff. Why not make a movie like this? Here's a different way to tell or story. What if we made houses like such and such. Eventually, people will be creating whole experiential worlds.

Anyway, I'm interested to learn more about your Paradise on Earth project (the link didn't work for me...please resend it, or post it here on your profile.) In the long run, the tools I'm making at Selfport will have a physical world component, which I've been calling "microcosmic worlds."

This is a way that people could form high tech communities even in remote places, build better living spaces cheaper, model sustainable systems, "permaculture," and so on. By embedding this is the entrepreneurial tool set I'm making, the idea is to free people from the "urbanization" trend, that everyone seems to think is inexorable. So people can live where they want, making a living from anywhere, and with a wide variety of choices in how they make a living. (My preference would be learning and teaching.)

I want to make a system for making better living spaces, cheaper, yet more creative, that is attractive enough to interest people in the first world, but affordable enough, and scalable enough, to work for people in the third world...to give literally everyone in the world a pretty good standard of living.

K

PS-I love that horse picture!

Dear friend, I agree completely with your clear statement that feeding evil with attention aids to its growth. For that reason i don’t focus on enemies. I kneel beside their victims, listen closely and work to expose the consequences of their ignorance and barbaric behaviour. I work to inform my readers about the fate of so many human beings of conscience in their urge to bring out the truth. And again I agree when you say “If all the worlds problems are looked on at once, it becomes clear, that there is something in common with them all.” In that case we’re looking at instinctive behaviour, at the urges of ego, like the limitless strive for wealth and power, whatever the costs to our fellow human beings. We have been talking about Than Shwe, but there are so many of these, by military protected, isolated lost souls. I’m not very interested in them or the absurd lives they lead.

I think I said this before, I enjoy peace and freedom within, I’m not flung to and fro by emotions and feel myself as a rock or a tree with a mission to fulfil. I don’t fear the devil if you will, I don’t fear my own death. You know Buddhism is all about human suffering, about recognizing that personal suffering is just a drop in the ocean of collective human suffering. It is the engagement to recognize and detach and connect with the Buddha nature. It’s aimed at finding the path that leads away from that obstructing and irritating ego that always messes things up. It is a method to develop empathy and compassion. As a pro-active engaged Buddhist I should feel compassion with those lost souls too. But in the light of the immense suffering they create i just can’t. Of course I want to know a little about them but my heart and energy is with their innocent victims. Probably I’ve not advanced far enough to that stage on the Buddhist path.

When I asked you if you were willing to write something for my readers I didn’t mean something like an attack on whomever, but about your thoughts and feelings, as a human being close to nature, on the importance of compassion, peace and Human Rights. I’m very happy with our discussion, wish you well, Willem (foto one of my teachers, Palden Gyatso who has survived 33 years in the Chinese gulag)

Welcome all to my little room in this huge city of peace and light.
I am very low on power right now with no wind and no sun,
So I may not be here to accept friendships nor reply to so many words of kindness left here.
Wish this be known so one would feel they are not important to me due to time it is going to take me to reply and respond.
Peace and blessings to all of peace :)

Dear Bubba, your beauty correspond to the mission you took in your life, to protect Tree with all your force, passion and soul! I put upon a big stone, for you, presents, some are fruits of the earth (fruits of my land: carrots, apples, apricot and peach, Italian horses like them) and another is special...an Italian war saddle!
The history concerning you and Tree, remember to me the history of Ulisses and his arch: only Ulisses could use it! Ciao, Horse, great spirit! I honore you fire power of the Nature!

Dear Tree, thank you for your reply. before i'll give my answer to your words i have to think about them. I think you're a very special human being. I wish i could visit you, to sit together, feel your reality, talk about your understanding of life or be silent together. You remind me of a friend who moved to Canada a couple of years ago where he now lives in a remote area. Be well, keep warm, Willem

Dear Tree, Than Shwe has had a series of operations because he is one of the generals who suffers cancer. If an engaged Human Rights activist wants to be effective he has to choose and focus on specific issues. As an engaged Buddhist I don’t believe in a creator beyond or a judging god. Everything is the creation of man and only man is responsible and able to heal the consequences of the battle between self and others in his own heart; of the impact of the forces of good and evil; of conscience and barbaric behaviour. Personally I don’t want to look at the world from above but learn about the consequences of narcism and total ignorance by lending my ear and heart to the brave individuals who have fallen prey to the insatiable selfish nature of beings like Than Shwe, Kim Jong-il, Hu jintao…..oh the list is so painfully long! Millions and millions of my fellow human beings are deprived, tortured and used as workforces for the hungry throats of the elite. My investigation in the nature of evil is not abstract, after the holocaust man has the responsibility to expose their evil nature and be aware that there are many concentration camps that operate in Asia, including gas chambers and ovens. In the second World War god has done nothing against it, and now in the 21 century he’s doing nothing again; it’s up to us, up to man to put an end to these terrible atrocities. With respect, be well, Willem

Dear Tree, do you really believe that Than Shwe will set the Burmese people free one day? I have deep respect for the courage and perseverance of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Do you believe that the generals have any interest in becoming a mighty warrior for the path of light? Do you know that most of the top generals are really sick with cancer and other diseases? For me the picture doesn’t mean that he should be killed but that they should be brought to our country to be judged by the International Court in The Hague for their barbaric crimes against humanity. Of course this will not happen but it should happen. Today I got the message that about 100 dissidents in the last two weeks have been sentenced to long imprisonments. Zarganar the comedian has been sentenced to 45 years in prison. Be well, Willem

Tree, I red your history. How lucky I am! I begin my life borning when stopped the terribile Secon War in Italy, in Europe, but more important in Mediterranean area, the cradle of occidental civility, the begin of arts (how many and how beautiful! maximum, the fine art of life), rights, medicine, philosophy, and some religions (three most important). We had many important men struggled for the civilizing, and if also there is much to do, we have good roots. We have many languages in this areas, and every language has a civilization on back. My language is sweet, reach of terms and significations, becoming from latin and greek and other ancient languages, a confluence and synthesis of civilizazions. We are ancient, and so we all have more opportunity for a "civil" life. In Italy the climate is easy, we are a little nation bordering many others (and other civilizazions) and the Mediterranean sea that contact many other nations and civilizazions as an easy net connected with Africa and Asia, and other civilizazions. In Italy, Cesare Beccaria in 1700, gave the impuls to take away the death penalità, we have no more: we Italian have important movements to take away from other Nations this terrible penality, and this is an important coscients of the human dignity and valour just for birding in this eart. We children grows without this fear.
I had a regular simply family, all intellectuals, and for the work of my father we travelled much, living in foreign lands most in mediterranean area, with many contacts and possibility to grow with others. My life gave me early a sense of myself with the self of other persons of every differences and nations, cultures, religions. It was easy and normal to live between the differences, to do, play, study, work together. Today I live in the Historic Centre (medieval, with many arts) of my town in the harbour (ships and peoples go and arrive every day, bringing the differences). I have a real small house, but when I go out, the road (just only pedonal) there is the world! Italian people of all the regions, Arabs, Turkish, Greek, French, German, English, Spanish, Polak, Russian, Nordik peoples, Japanese, American of U.S.A. Argentine, Brazilian, Cuban, Peruvian, Equadorian....Asiatic...really all the world! It's fantastic! We make music, we eat together, we dance, we speak about all the problem (yes we all have problems, and our government in this period make to all us problems, is the first time we vote a partite and not the men, and this made we angry because is the first time without the application of our good Popular Constitution, is an abuse and for immigrate people is more dangerous). Well, we live all together, with good things and bad things, but we are all together. So, for me is easy to say: WE, and is easy to say WE ARE THE SAME. I was young, in the past 1968, an important date of union between students and workers to obtain conditions of free and power in the work, in the study, in the life. We don't struggle for money or for career, but for better condition of life for all, and in the all were us, I. Bifore was for my nation, after we become to struggle for all human people of the world. We were "idealist", and also Peace is utopic until we are not able to practice peace. Peace is a conscious state, is the shine of the earth connected with All, but to practice peace we need to do in group, WE, as a school. Have you seen the pets all together playng? The little dog take the ear of the companion and drag, the other cry, the first drag more and more. In the second time, is this playng who take the ear of the first pet and drag and the other cry, and becomes to understand what produce cry and suffering. This is the school to learn to become a pack. The same for the human: if I do or say something to you and you enter soffering, I look in myself to find what the problem, and so whe I understand I may find the way to change mysel and so I grow in humanity in the way of peace.
When I go from my little house on the road, perhapes I encounter a ill-breed person with me, or a child: I protest with force, but my heart is in peace, and is easy to smile at the other person who is coming. Tree, this is a conquest into myself, learning every day more, compassion (Buddhist explain very well what is compassion: is not pity, is not to jydge and to condamn a person, is to be with the path of the person knowing all we are in the human condition. Is unconditional love ). I am grate to my life, I'm very lucky.Your experiences made you precious, I am lucky to have encountered you, will give me the possibility to become more true (because you are true and open),more deep, I hope to be able to become better and peacefull. I embraced you, my dear important Tree! and sorry for my English, I don't wont utilise a translator, I want to learn!
