Strategically Speaking Metallic Misery [Pt. IV]

Part IV: Strategically Speaking Metallic Misery (G.O.A.T.*)
11/21/09
* G.O.A.T. = Get Out [of] Afghanistan, Tyrants

“One Dead Battery”

One dead battery, another dead body
No more pain, a future now plotted
Evenly entombed- a tour through; phrases
Dealt carefully attempting to explain this
Every last dead battery is one more too many
A piece of peace drained; a loss for our country
‘Duty calls,’ they said, and our soldiers answered
But the headlines i see keep seeing them interred
Another homage to our fallen heroes
Trying so bravely to land ordered blows
Torn from home, torn into two by the fighting
Each, if questioned, will say it’s quite ‘exciting’
Ready for combat until they see it first-hand
Yearning for action until their unit loses a man.

“A Metallic Misery”

Armed but unarmored; a military arrogantly ‘advanced’
Metallic misery loaded with loathing into all barrels
Every shot ‘high tech’- eerie, vision even in the night
Toggled on, tiptoeing- a greenish glow illuminating
Apparently empty desert; on guard, gauging; gazing
Looking around tentatively; tensely marching on- breaking
Leaning on rifles at rest- re-assured,
Import inflated intensely by ghoulish gadgetry
Catching their breath- silently, quickly- listening intently
Moving forward- objective straight ahead; oblivious to the obvious
Incoming! mortars mangle, mopping up men in the night
Some scene- serious carnage, careless orders; commanders
Earnestly ordering children after children- chilling
Reinforcing a reminiscence of less recent invasions
Young, used- on all sides; following blind orders from far outside

“Strategically Speaking, Softly”

Silently now i start to spell it out
Typing it up neatly in black and white
Repeating myself only when in doubt
A whole-hearted effort to get it write
To make it public and finally end this
Employed by love, a worker unpaid
Gaining ground, gripping pen; making a list
Inspecting within and without- eyes open; enraged
Callously they make waste of our youth
Afghanistan’s, Pakistan’s & Iraq’s, too.. strange
Let them, why don’t you, tear the world into two
Leaving messes behind, targets engaged ‘at range’?
You stand so far back from it you can’t even see
Shooting missiles from drones, missing the enemy
Point and click or circle and level- which strategy?
Every time a stray shot- drones low on energy?
A dead battery to contend with? a targeting malfunction?
Killing their civilians, failing to protect your own
In the field- serving valiantly- suffering command, dysfunction
Never opening your eyes to the terrorism you’ve sown
Granting them publicity, giving them cause- moronic
Such a grand war with a strikingly brilliant approach
Oh, give them a rest- just finish your gin & tonic
Forgetting everything about it or just never in touch?
Turning the glass up or these your sober decisions?
Listlessly galvanizing a world with ever deeper incisions-
Your strategy is in need of some major revisions!
