Namaste,
Thanks for your interest in Nepal and also for being a human activist. The situation here in Nepal is far more better than it was some years ago.But it is not up to the expectations of the people. Some places of the southern part of Nepal is not in a good position due to different types of armed groups. But the situation has become quite good than before. If you want to know more, i ll write in Next mail. Thanks

Ha-kol be-seder, Habibi! Thank you for adding me. The situation with Israel and Palestine is so complex. When I lived in Israel in the early 1960s I was determined to learn Hebrew and arabic, settle there, and to work for the good of the two sepearate but equal societiesI. Then, in the early 1970s, when it occurred to me that politicians from both sides really do not want peace because the insecurity keeps them in power! But we ultimately must never despair ...

Very pleased to meet you, Willem.

I note you support the Free Tibet movement. I'm certainly in favor of freedom and political self-determination for all people, but I've got a thought-provoking question for you: don't you think the Dalai Lama is actually a more effective spiritual leader now that he is no longer the head of an established state religion?

To understand where I'm coming from with this question you need to know that I follow the Anabaptist school of Christianity. Which is to say, I think the early Christians were strict pacifists but Jesus' nonviolent teachings were corrupted when the Emperor Constantine made Christianity the official religion of Rome in 313 CE. Prior to then, there's no record of significant Christian involvement in the military.

Seems to me when you have an established religion in a military state it forces a nonpacifist theology, and this is a cross-cultural phenomenon.

I think many Buddhist scholars would agree that early Buddhists were strict pacifists, like the early Christians, but with the rise of Tibetan Buddhism a just war tradition arose. Does His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, believe in war now that he is no longer the head of an established church? Of course not, now. The Dalai Lama is perhaps the world's foremost teacher of strict nonviolence. But how could he possibly hold that view while he ruled over a nation that had a standing military? Keep in mind that when China ousted the Dalai Lama from Tibet in 1959, Tibet offered up armed resistance.

What do you think?

Peace,

Marvin

I have passed on the message about Tibet to my contacts in England, and I hope this will have a positive impact. :-)
It is so important for the world to have people like you who give everything for others.

I think it is also important that we do sit and find peace in ourselves sometimes, too - as this is the only real starting point for creating peace in the world.

With love and light, and prayers for your good work.

your message about survival for the winter rings strong in me. these days i am selling tibetan incense to help support a small reforestation project and other projects in eastern Tibet... its called lama chodpa incense and is great quality,, they have a nice site lamachodpa.com friends of NubGon monestary.... supporting Tibet is for me is doing something active for their communities, as I have very little sway in big political issues, step by step preservation of the culture and support is one way...peace
