After The Storm

I've been traveling a long way from home...

I just walked away-- Never dreamed of running away,

Needed to get away, from where I was just a child.

Trying to make my way; just to prove I have grown.

Gotta keep moving-- I wish I could stay...

But I gotta fly, I hear the call of the great blue wild.

Walking my path, that may just lead me home, but I'm not alone.

I guess, I can be thankful for one more… Continue

The Story of Sisyphus

Sisyphus was condemned to an eternity of rolling a boulder uphill then watching it roll back down again. Sisyphus was founder, as well as, king of Corinth. He also was known for being a cunning dishonest person. His greatest triumph came at the end of his life, when Hades came to claim him personally for the kingdom of the dead. Hades brought along a pair of handcuffs, an obvious novelity in comparasion the rolling a bouder up hill for all enternity. Sisyphus pretended to express such an… Continue

Dreaming Sailing Star

Steal away, on a sailing star,

We can drift away, so far.

Catch on to a dream,

Float along a star-filled stream.

Come drift away with me,

Because dreams are vast as the sea.

Maybe we could sail away,

Onto the crest of a new day.

Sailing across an ocean of stars.

Floating beyond the moons of mars.

Still falling fast asleep,

Praying for my soul to keep.

Untethered… Continue

What a Suprise! Just an Ordinary Day!

Who woulda thought. Just a mild southwest Florida day. Blue skies, and fluffy cumulonimbus clouds; the landscapers manicuring the grounds. The ducks hanging around the complex's lake. A gentle breeze rolling in from the Gulf of Mexico. The sounds of children laughing at the playground near my building. All is right in my little corner of the world...and not a chance that anything could make this day fall apart.

The dog asleep on the lanai, snoring actually. I am a bit envious that… Continue

Magnanimous

We should try something new.

Take a chance on me,

Taking a chance on you.

I wish I could write...

What it will always be like,

But you'll only say, "that it might."

I could post this,

For everyone to read.

I could brag about our first kiss.

Why should I write about you,

Taking a chance,

On something new?

I could write about,

How we first met.

But then our secret would be out.

Then the world would want to see,

Your… Continue

Nothing Like The Pitter- Patter

Of raindrops hitting the roof. Comfortable, relaxing and peaceful, the perfect end to a great day. Soothing rthymic rain, and the smell of fresh clean air.

Some believe that rain washes away sin. One way or another rain cleanses the earth. A fresh start, after the rain. Like many of us receiving our fresh start. Don't we share that experience? A chance at starting over, new beginnings and a fresh new day. Coming soon to a life near you...a brand new year.

The basis of… Continue

Foolish Dreamer

Why do I let my mind get trapped?

So busy over-thinking what's been said.

My heart has been gift wrapped,

Torn open and bled.

Sleep-walking in a world I dreamed.

Your lovely hand in mine,

A kiss for an eternity, or so it seemed.

Please just give me a sign.

The dream is about you,

As you whisper in my ear.

Tell me what you want to do...

Remove my doubt and make it all so clear.

Send me a message,

From across the distant… Continue

Count Our Blessings, Not Our Miseries

Today, like many of us, I am reminded of the tough times that we are facing in this economy. Even though the times are troubled, we will survive and many of us will have a roof over our heads, as well as plenty of food in our bellies. So I guess maybe things aren't quite as bad as they seem in our self-drowing tunnel vision. With all the government bail-outs, who am I to say these government funds are misappropiated, and where is this money coming from anyway? Oh yeah, I forgot! I'm a citizen,… Continue

What's Not Said

So today I went a little old school and put a little pen to paper. I am always hesitent to post poems. But this one I wrote earlier actually picked up responses that made me feel like I had captured a moment that every human has felt. So after much thought I decided to post it anyway.

________________________________________________________________

What's Not Said

My Feelings....

I can't hide.

My heart beats...

Our Reality is Simply a Matter of Agreement

The world as we know it has been taught to us since childhood. We have been trained to see the world through our enviroment, through parental guidance, social pressure, theory, science and from our governments. The world view is an idea of reality. Made up of ideas that weave through all of our lives, a collective unconsious that affects everyone of us.

Remember things are not always what they seem. Our attitudes and ideas about the world may not be completely accurate. Different… Continue

The Knock of the Spirit

"Realize that there comes a time in the life of every individual when he or she knows for a fact that it is not possible to continue with his or her existing life as it is. In that moment the individual knows that if peace and happiness is to be found, then a most drastic change is called for. This event is known as the Knock of the Spirit. When it comes, the Spirit of man metaphorically knocks upon the individual's door, and the message given is brief, but overwhelming in its implications:… Continue

Could It Happen to You?

The pain of addiction isn't the only reason for the plight of the homeless, the low income or the grossly underpaid. I don't believe that it is due completely to choices. I have yet to meet anyone who says, "Hey I want to live in abject poverty. I want to be unable to secure even the most basic of needs for my loved ones."

In this time of change and new hope in America maybe its time for the voices of the silent to roar. I've lived in many cities that have had serious homelessness. I… Continue

I Feel Like Coloring

Days like today, I just want to pull out the old trusty mental coloring book, and my well worn box of crayons. The deal is today that mentally I picture myself coloring inside the lines, but I envision more of a outside of the lines kind of picture.

Usually my mind and vision are inagreement, and sometime amazing is created. But on days when mind and vision have a difference of opinion one my have to compromise or another solution must be found. When an agreement can't be reached I… Continue

The Desire to Just Be...

To be one's centered self and not self centered. To breathe in life and let it fill my lungs; to feel it flow through my body, mind, and soul. Exhale...

To figure out the chains that hold any of us down are really self-imposed. Finding the key is really inside of ourselves too. The key to set us free to walk the paths of our own destinys. Light, love, inner peace and a new sense of freedom from holds us down. There is a difference between being grounded and reality. Who is really… Continue

Quotes of Compassion from His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.

I myself feel, and also tell other Buddhists that the question of Nirvana will come later.

There is not much hurry. If in day to day life you lead a good life, honesty, with love, with compassion, with less selfishness, then automatically it will lead to Nirvana.

If the love within your mind is lost and you see other beings as enemies, then no matter how much knowledge or… Continue

Quotes: In the Words of Buddha

A dog is not considered a good dog because he is a good barker. A man is not considered a good man because he is a good talker.

Buddha

A jug fills drop by drop.

Buddha

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.

Buddha

All that we are is the result of… Continue

May 10, 1994- The Day the Whole World Listened

Timeless words with infinite relevance for our own lives.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, Who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We… Continue

Quotes from "The Art of Peace" by Morihei Ueshiba

One does not need buildings, money, power, or status to practice the Art of Peace. Heaven is right where you are standing, and that is the place to train.

The Art of Peace begins with you. Work on yourself and your appointed task in the Art of Peace. Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here for no other purpose than to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster peace… Continue

Quotes for Inner Peace.

Peace of mind is not a goal I need achieve. It's a place inside I never want to leave. Close my eyes, I still my thoughts and then I say I will choose to live in peace today.

-Robert Alan

We can only help make our lives and our world more peaceful, when we ourselves feel peace. Peace already exists within each of us, if we only allow ourselves to feel its comfort. Peace of mind begins when we stop thinking about how far we have to go, or how hard the road has been, and… Continue
