Day 6 of the Season For Nonviolence: Simplicity

Greetings, family!

Today is Wednesday, February 4, and the word for the day is "Simplicity."

"Live simply, so others can simply live," say the Quakers. To simplify is to invite peacefulness into our lives. When we have lots of "stuff" in our lives, it is hard to be peaceful. Close your eyes and ask, "How can I simplify my life; what can I let go of?"

If we dare let go of our possessions and the will to control and dominate, we will cultivate a deeper spirit of… Continue

Healing Wisdom 04 February

"Miracles happen to those who believe in them."

~ Bernard Berenson

"There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle."

~ Albert Einstein

Miracles occur around us every day, if we open ourselves to them. It would be nice if the heavens opened and trumpets played whenever a miracle occurs, but all you really need to do is learn to recognize…

My little bit to help grow peace - protesting graphic war photos, etc.

Since the cease fire there has been a campaign to raise money for Gaza at the school where I work. I knew that many people were very upset about what had happened and many had families back there or roots there. Emotions have been very high especially since the local news channels had been running Gaza 24/7. Sometimes I wondered if I was the only objective, peace-seeking person left. Good news: At last count the school raised over 9000 dirhams for the Red Crescent (like the Red… Continue

Hippie Days are Here Again... grab your voices, your signs, your pens and join us!

When asked about the hippy days, Chris Bettini the talented maille artist behind IkowDesigns: said ‘I was 3 years old in '72, but my mom tells me I was all out the hippies. She said I used to go around doing the peace sign and saying "two peaces (pieces)".’

Wayne Elkin, a self described aging hippy posted a picture of a peace sign on a barn in Marin. In the past two days, I have received e mails on the Department of Peace and an… Continue

The Serenade

When is the last time you heard about a Serenade?

My mother was engaged to my father, in college, back in 1948.

To celebrate, dad's fraternity brothers came to mom's sorority house just

after the sun set, and sang about 3 or 4 songs to her.

She was alone on the upper balcony with all her sorority sisters everywhere else.

There were about 40-50 frat brothers, holding candles or flashlights as they sang.

Mom said they all were pretty good singers, and it was a… Continue

Martin Luther King Jr. and Aung San Suu Kyi

Martin Luther King Jr. and Aung San Suu Kyi

Dear james m,

Many people have compared Burma's Nobel Peace Prize recipient Aung San Suu Kyi to Martin Luther King Jr.

These comparisons came into focus last Sunday -- on the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. day -- when Suu Kyi was given the "Trumpet of Conscience Award" by the Realizing the Dream foundation, which is led by Martin Luther King III.

This where your pups will end up

I put dogs in the gas chamber

Yes, I Gas Dogs and Cats for a Living.

I'm an Animal Control officer in a very small town in central North Carolina.

I'm in my mid thirties, and have been working for the town in different positions since high school.

There is not much work here, and working for the county provides good pay and benefits for a person like me without a higher education. I'm the person you all… Continue

Obtaining true Peace threw practicing advanced forgiveness

We have surely all had the experience of needing to forgive someone or God for creating negative life experiences. First i would like to say God does not need to forgive anyone for anything for Gods awareness is in an eternal and indestructible mind...and the same is true of us as Spirits in a body...although we may experience hurt or damage it is only because there is a damaged perception in the mind...now we as spirits having a human experience need to forgive everything in life until we… Continue

Reality or illusions - Peace or conflict

I have a strong passion for living in Peace and truth and a goal to believe only in the peace of God...at the moment i believe illusions are real and have put faith in illusions....for when they surface in my life i loose the experience of my oneness with life and god...just recently i have stopped listening to the news in the media because it takes me away from the peace of God...i am sure there are a few items on the news every now and then like hearing about there being a new goverment in… Continue

10 Year old divorcee takes Paris

FROM TIME MAGAZINE by Vivienne Walt

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1876652,00.html?cnn=yes

In a dimly lit corner of a Paris bar a delighted young divorcée describes in a soft voice how she spent the day throwing snowballs for the first time in her life. That is not remarkable. This is: Nujood Ali is just 10 years old — and was, until recently, the youngest known divorced person in the world.

Slender with thick hair and a shy smile, Ali made headlines in… Continue

Crime in Italian town: from "just about zero" to daily occurence

I live in a city with 160,000 people, a medieval hilltown in Italy. The crime rate used to be, as a professor here once said "Just about zero", and it was true. Now local crimes are drug and alcohol related, killings, robbery, hit and run drivers, rape, prostitution, knivings. Every single day someone is murdered in Italy, and our little town has become one of the top meeting places for drug dealings.

For me, growing up in California, any… Continue

What would love do?

"O Love, O pure deep Love, be here, be now,

Be all – worlds dissolve into your

stainless endless radiance,

Frail living leaves burn with your brighter

than cold stares –

Make me your servant, your breath, your core." - Rumi

What would love do?

Ever asked yourself that question?

See how your day is transformed when you flash yourself awake, before you act.

The next time the phone rings, take a breath,… Continue

Is a piece of peace all we can really hold onto?

Have you ever wondered about why some words are said the exact same, but spelled differently?

Words like soul and sole (like the sole's of your feet)

Is this part of extreme intelligent design, or just coincidence?

Part of me thinks that there is a communication bypass going on, and we take some of the things we say for granted..

For example, piece and peace..

"No man can be trusted, 4 deep in his heart, all men are capable of… Continue
