Just 48 hours after the U.S. President signed agreements with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev to reduce weapon stores, 11-year-old Malia Obama was spotted wearing not one, but two T-shirts with an anti-nuclear message.
She wore the tops emblazoned with the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament's famous logo as her father prepared for three days of G8 talks in Italy.
The symbol, designed for the CND in 1958, is now widely… Continue

being well equipped
One morning her husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors and continues to read her book. Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, ma'am. What are you doing? "Reading a book," she replies (thinking, isn't that obvious?). "You're in a restricted fishing area", he informs…

MUNAY-KI (The Foundation Rites)
The Munay-Ki are the nine great rites of initiation of the medicine way. The Munay-Ki are the nine gates that heal us and transform our human energy field into that of Homo Luminous.
The prophecies of the Ancient Americas speak about a new human appearing on the planet- one who lives free of fear and resides in his or her transcendent nature. The Munay-Ki are the codes for the new human. They are delivered in the form of energetic…

It's so nice to be back home, where I belong. Thanks for the spectacular welcome. This appears to be the place I do belong. How refreshing. Been called a "hippie" by a die hard Republican, and much to his dismay, was happy for the designation. Been bragging ever since. We'll talk again soon I hope. PEACE, Sal

(Detail from "American quilt" )
When I complete a composition there are often unused ideas left. Some of those I find actually pretty good but if I can’t see how to fit them into the piece then there’s not much choice but to discard them. For a while.

Never having been one to dream of wealth, I have been happy enough in fact to live from hand to mouth at times. (Or at the least, I was not greatly complaining.) Being lucky to make the rent payments was somewhat of an adventure. Sometimes, even in my young 40's, my needing to ask my mom and dad for help wasn't easy, but I dealt with it. Believe me when I tell you they gave me, not a…

Why Zen
If you have never come across Zen before, it might seem quite perplexing with it's apparent contradictions and paradoxes. But if you are ready and willing to commit yourself to the Zen "Way" then Zen is one of the most powerful ways to transform the quality of your life that I have ever come across. If you are not ready, looking into Zen will not make the slightest bit of sense and chances are you will soon quit.
Unlike other philosophies Zen is like climbing a huge mountain…

Zen Psychiatry
As I have suggested before, psychiatry concerns itself with the unreal, or the psychotic. Many psychiatrists will diagnose a person who hears either “inner” or “outer” voices with schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorder. Medication is then used in an attempt to stop the voices from taking place. Interestingly, Zen Meditation has traditionally concerned itself with blocking out thoughts or even internal voices. I would like to argue that psychiatry use Zen Meditation…

Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world. Unreasonable people attempt to adapt the world to themselves. All progress, therefore, depends on unreasonable people.

I had a conversation with a nonprofit recently that got me thinking about how times are changing and what an amazing paradigm shift we are going through. It made me wonder how many people, organizations, nonprofits and others will make it through this paradigm shift? And what will be…

I have just read a report stating that Canada, Russia and Japan are the bad boys in the climate issue . Being Canadian and living in Japan I feel sad and distraught that both these nations don't follow the EU and America's effort in reducing carbon emmisions. The result of the temperature rising 2 degrees will be catastrophic, not fo directly for North America but for the poorest nations of Africa and Asia. So all of us with computors, lights, cars living in the affluence how are we going to…

Enjoy the show - wonderful artists. This week I am in huge production rehearsals for the Ladies of Swing big orchestra project. We have a showcase on Thursday and then premiere the show at the beginning of August. Everything is coming together so beautifully. In Berlin we finally seem to be through with the rainy season and I can spend more hours on the balcony. Where ever you are, enjoy it! And if you ever want to post these shows... or link them.. feel free.

People around the world are not all the same. They don’t all want the same exact things. But at the end of the day, my guess would be that most people the world over do want some similar things, and that freedom would probably top the list of what most people need and want. Iranians are no exception.
What is freedom? Not an easy question to answer considering all the hype that goes into that one simple word. Freedom means different things to different people, and its meaning changes…
