10 December 2008- 60 years ago The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (10 December 1948 at Palais de Chaillot, Paris).

The Declaration arose directly from the experience of the Second World War and represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled. It consists of 30 articles which have been elaborated in subsequent international treaties, national constitutions and laws.

Tenerife, la isla de las Espérides... !!!

Continue

Ho'oponopono

"Two years ago, I heard about a therapist in Hawaii who cured a complete ward of criminally insane patients--without ever seeing any of them. The psychologist would study an inmate's chart and then look within himself to see how he created that person's illness. As he improved himself, the patient improved. "When I first heard this story, I thought it was an urban legend. How could anyone heal anyone else by healing himself? How could even the best self-improvement master cure the criminally… Continue

Only on a Friday .... in the Spring of 2008

Ode to an elusive peace written during civil strife in Lebanon, post the Israeli war of aggression of 2006:

Beirut .... that unfathomable yet beautiful city,

home to my son for the time being,

is driving me crazy.

Just when things were going so well for son at uni;

he's evacuated along with other students,

as chaos runs riot, loud and menacing,

through the streets of this

beloved of cities.

He ducked and dived his way from… Continue

Brief Hiatus in the Blog World

Due to demands of work, I will be 'not blogging' for about a week. OR TWO. (Also to happiness of being at a party next weekend far from home! :) It is a week of birthdays, and doing things I've procrastinated far too long. (Can we 'procrastinate' things? Well, I sure do!) Please check back here after International Peace Day -- my husband and I are spending that day on . . . . the Battleship New Jersey :0 because the birthday boy (70 years old) is a history buff, and wanted to celebrate on a… Continue

Jesus speaks about what he really meant when he said Love your enemies…

Jesus speaks to Glenda Green in her book, Love Without End, about what Love is and about loving your enemies and what he really meant by saying that.

Jesus asked Glenda to draw an equilateral triangle on some paper. He used it to describe to components of the universe as being basically three. The first is love, the second is spirit, and the third is a substance that is finer than anything yet… Continue

Peace Begins at Home

I am a registered nurse and will not be able to write every day but I do want to share a few thoughts on why I have joined this group today. As a child, living on an Air Force Base, I did not understand the efforts for war and hatred of others. These feelings have not changed through my five decades of life. I was fortunate to find my way to Tibetan Buddhism and have been given tools to enable me to strive to promote peace wherever I may find myself. This forum gives me the opportunity to… Continue

Waiting as a Spiritual Practice

Waiting as a Spiritual Practice

by Julie Redstone

The capacity to wait, despite its very ordinariness, can be a profound spiritual tool with which to dismantle the needs and pressures of both ego and will. Important in this is the kind of waiting that takes place, for there are many kinds, and not all of them are capable of releasing the ego in a way that is beneficial to spiritual growth.

The kind of waiting that is transformative is based on… Continue
